General Discussion / Re: Tsunami Help
February 03, 2013, 09:09:12 PM
Thanks, I was looking around on google trying to find information about it after I posted this and saw a video that mentioned it and tried it and it worked! I'm not as impressed with it as I thought I would. It is not a loud as I wish it was and the whistle and main volume are turned up. If anyone knows how to make it any louder, any information would be appreciated!

General Discussion / Tsunami Help
February 02, 2013, 11:40:53 AM
I have three Tsunami sound equipped HO scale locomotives. In the programing manual it says that it has a playable whistle function. All is says you have to do is program CV 47 to 1 or more to activate it. I understand that you have to have a controller that has a pressure sensitive button, which I do, to operate it. I have a Digitrax DT402D controller with a receiver panel connected into my Zyphr. I have the wireless remote set to be able to use the pressure sensitive button but when I program the Loco, the whistle will not work. What am I doing wrong or is their more to it to make it work? Is it because my Zephyr does not support this function, because I know my additional throttle does.

HO / 2-8-0 with Southern Valve Gear
November 16, 2012, 10:28:35 PM
I want to take a Bachamann 2-8-0 and change the valve gear to Southern Style valve gear using the part from the 2-10-2. I have a 2-10-2 and a 2-8-0 and it doesn't look like it would be as hard as it seems but wanted to know if anyone has done this. My goal is to make a model of Southern 630. Just to clarify, I don't plan to use parts I have, but order another 2-8-0 and the 2-10-2 Southern Valve Gear from the parts department.

Mine does the same thing, although I kind of like it, it seems to add some realism, but that is just me.

From what I can get, since decoders use pwm to the motor, that may be better for a small motor like that is in it.

HO / Re: Dear Mr. Bachmann, the new 2012 locomotives

Mr. Bachmann, i have been looking at the NMRA announcement page for a bit now, and i can't help but realize that there are different railroads for DCC ready & DCC sound value, but both descriptions say "available in DCC ready and with DCC sound value", yet there are 8 roads listed, 4 in the sound value and 4 in the ready. Does this mean that 4 roads will have sound and the other 4 wont? I know its early but any info on this would be great.

Thanks for releasing so many great items this year, as usual! ;D

You must have been looking at a different product announcement brosure. All I saw was a new high railer and 1 new diesel. All Bachmann did was come out with more road names in locomotives they already had or just added a more affordable sound decoder to stuff they already had. I was extremely disappointed with Bachmann's Ho product announcements. EXPECIALLY NOT HAVING ANY NEW STEAM LOCOMOTIVES!

I attempted to post this before, but apparently it didn't "take", so here it is again:

Words can't describe how truly disappointed I am...not only did Bachmann not develop one of the steam engines I was hoping for, they didn't develop ANY new steam engines.  AT ALL.  I guess they are all out to lunch in the steam development department.  The only HO steam in the brochure was just previously released pieces with new road names/numbers.  Wow.  And while I'll probably end up buying one of the WM F7A's, I just wanted to add that just about every other model railroad company has also developed a version of the F7 this year, where there were NONE available this time last year.  Talk about saturating the market...

I also found it was a shame that Yardmaster and other moderators didn't bother to share with those of us with hopes for new HO steam that there wouldn't be ANY.  I can understand keeping new items under wraps as a "surprise", but what's the point of not telling faithful customers that they have been totally overlooked for the entire upcoming production year?  It wouldn't have taken much for one of you to simply drop a line like "For those of you steam fans, unfortunately, we were unable to develop any new locomotives for 2012, but hopefully we can do better next year."  Now what would that have taken so we didn't keep on the brink of our seats waiting for the announcement when there wasn't one?   :'(

Does anyone know where I can find information for other companies new products?  Of particular interest are Woodland Scenics and Walthers!  Thanks!   :)

I agree, I was dissapointed very much in Bachmann pretty much coming out with nothing truly new in HO. I was so hopping for a Heisler but then they go and dissapoint so many people by coming out with nearly nothing new!

General Discussion / Re: Multiple DC power packs

All you have to do is divide the track into isolated blocks by gapping one rail only.  Make sure all your gaps are in the same rail.

The ungapped rail is the "common rail".  It can be wired directly to the same polarity terminal of all the power packs.  You need to determine the polarity of the track terminals on the power packs and wire them together with a jumper wire.

Each powerpack is then wired to the isolated secions in the other (gapped) rail, by routing the power from the remaining DC terminal through a DPDT switch, or, in the case of more than two powerpacks, through a rotary switch with multiple poles.  An Atlas Selector can be used to obtain four DPDT switches on a single panel.  This is explained in the wiring book mentioned in the previous post.

If this is done, it will be impossible to connect more than one powerpack to the same section of track simultaneously.

Reversing sections (reverse loops, wyes) are a little more complex.

This system has an advantage in that if the power throttles are turned off, no power reaches the track.

Les

Actually that won't work because then you can't reverse the trains separately, they will both have to be running in the same direction to keep the polarity the same in both track sections. If one rail is connected and not insulated, then you will have a short if you reverse one train and not the other.

I, too, would like the see a three truck Heisler in HO (or two truck for that matter...hopefully better and lower cost than Rivarossi's), but am still holding out for that model of Western Maryland Big Six Shay that I mentioned last year.  I would also like to see a Pacific Coast Shay and/or a 2 truck Shay as well.

As far as rolling stock, Camp Cars would be a nice addition!   :)

Were you the one who was quoting a reliable source last year?
I think a Heisler would be a good guess.

Well Considering that Bachmann already has a Hiesler in On30 and Large Scale, so it might make since that they would make one in Ho, plus they have the Shay and Climax, they are also 3 truck so a 3 Truck Hiesler might make since.

I am hoping for a 3 Truck Hiesler in Ho. They have one in Large and On30, so that gives more hope plus that is all they need to have the 3 main loggers. A 3 Truck Hiesler is all I need to have all three loggers with sound. I am very impressed with the loggers so far so I think they can pull another good one off.

I prefer steam over diesel because of the Pure Awesomeness of the steamers. Even though I prefer steam, I like a few diesels as well such as the 45 ton. I have seen very few steamers in person because I am only 14, but my favorite steamer is hard to say. I love all the types of loggers, mainly the 3 Truck Climax, the PRR S-2 steam turbine but mostly the SP 4449 in the orange, red, silver and black. I have not seen the Daylight in person but I would love to. I am going to a train camp at the Tennessee Valley Rail Road near the end of the month. I would like to go to the Cass Scenic Rail Road in West Virginia to see all the logging locomotives. I live in Georgia, and my sister wants to go to the Kentucky Horse Parks, so we are thinking about going some time soon and do both in one trip.

He is right, you have to connect the wires between the loco and tender, because the loco is wired for the decoder and the decoder is in the tender.

HO / Climax Problems
May 22, 2012, 08:52:04 AM
I have a Sound Equipped 3 Truck Climax. The offset rod on the left side of the locomotive came loose on the screw and now I can't get the rod back where it belongs. The rod that would connect to the reverser is loose on that side. I could see a screw in that area that would hold the rod but I think the piece the screw runs though is broke. I think that is what caused the rod problem. Because of that happening over the time I have had it, (It never has ran smooth since I have had it) it has bent the small rod that runs to the piston.   I messed up the screw some trying to fix it, otherwise I have not messed with it. Will Bachmann still fix it? I hope they will because the Climax is the most expensive locomotive I have.

You an get the Liliput Bachmann Trains from http://www.reynaulds.com/. They have all kinds of European imports and other H0e from other brands.
