GG;
If that doesn't quite float your boat, maybe you should consider vacating to another more equitable environment-like maybe Russia...

GG;
Good remedy.  This particular celebration has some very profound meaning, and it has only been intensified by what is going on.  I am glad you found a solution for what is probably a relatively short duration.

Have a good fourth

Rich

We live about 10 miles from town, so we don't usually see the annual fireworks show, but  our dog goes nuts about 9 PM.

Happy 4th everyone

After experiencing some losses in my family, I gained a much greater appreciation of death's magnitude.  Considering the people who lost their lives in the effort to create what the USA is today, I re-evaluated my outlook on the world around me.  They sacrificed their lives to allow the rest of us to have opportunities, many of which cannot be found anywhere else on the planet, and so by disregarding said opportunities, are we negating the reason for their deaths?  Freedom isn't free, so I feel indebted to the ones who payed my share for me.  I've gotten more motivated to do better in school, because missing assignments make me feel a little guilty.
Take a look around and contemplate what is available to you by the cooperation of brilliant minds and the sacrifices of brave soldiers who decided to make a difference 231 years ago.

 :o ??? Wait we Celebrate the 4th in Vicksburg??? You sure the casinos might but the City hasn't since 1863. We had the annual Civil War re enactment which I used to participate in until health stopped me as a CSA Artillery Capt.

Alex if I was in your neighborhood I would be in  Red marching on to Boston to get the crowns money back for all that split tea LOL!!

But what is past is prolog.

Stephen, my understanding was that Vicksburg began celebrating the Fourth some twenty years ago or so. I could be wrong.  I've never been to Vicksburg on the 4th, though I've been to Gettysburg on the 3rd.  Last time I was there I found a small bouquet of cornflowers at the base of the momument for the 26th NC where they opposed Cushing's Battery, 5th U.S. Artillery.

Hi Gene,

The city of Vicksburg, Mississippi hasn't officially celebrated the 4th since 1863.
I worked for Harrah's casino in 1998 and it was kinda funny everyone commenting on how much the casinos were spending on  fireworks when the city was spending ZERO on them. In 1993 the City finally allowed its employees to take off the 4th without loosing time for it but the City fathers never actually admitted to the reason.

In Fact this year the local paper had a poll to celebrate or not for the City to vote on it.

Usually when we shoot off black powder its from the muzzle of a Cannon.

"...Old times there are not forgotten..."   ;D
I guess my information was wrong.  Maybe individuals celebrate the 4th; it's just the city that doesn't.
