I have just recieved a new Bachmann 2-6-2 from a dealer, and the box did not contain the warranty card. It did contain the Instruction Shweet and another sheet illustrated with total wording in Chinese. There was a smal Factory Item Packinf Slip. The dealer has opened another 2-6-2 and it does not have a Warranty Card in the box either. The dealer has kindly offered to accept the loco with a full credit, but I am confused. I would like to  keep it and am asking  if Bachmann would accept a copies of my Pay Pal Cash Receipt ,Instruction Sheet,Factory Packing Number Slip,to validate my warranty.
I have bought many Bachmann Locos over the years and have experience using the warranty system with a faulty loco some year ago to  my total satisfaction. Advice needed please. Thank You Owen Robinson

HO / Tenshodo HO Box Cars
November 25, 2009, 04:04:51 PM
Could anyone tell me how the old Tenshodo HO stock was branded,in particular the tinplate and plastic  box cars. I think they only had "Japan" on the underside. Wanted to identify same to be certain, and historic interest only. TGhanks

I bought a Bachmann Hamburger Stand Kit #45434,and was surprised to find there were no instructions at all inside. There was a list of items, and that said to follow the picture on the box for instructions. The only picture of the model is on the side and is about the size of a postage stamp.
Luckily I have been building kits since the first plastic ones were available, mainly aeroplanes, and this is the first with nothing.
How does Bachmann expect the juvenile modellers to build this properly without instructions ?. Our hobby needs these youngsters and us old timers to keep learning new skills. This kit was sealed outside and p;lastic bags inside with small parts all intact. ? ??? ???

HO / Spectrum 2-8-0 Noisy Sometimes
February 28, 2009, 05:04:41 AM
My 2-8-0 only 9 months old has started to make a noise like hammer blows you would expect from an old worn out loco. This only happens now and then, and I suspect it is noticeable on some curves. I realise the limitation of curve sizes but it starts to happen before it gets to the curve,on a long straight .Otherwise it is very quiet. Suggestions welcome to make for better running.

HO / Rail/Road Crossing Boom Gates on Double Curve
August 29, 2008, 05:27:22 AM
Can I buy a Rail/Road Crossing with electric boom gates and lights to fit a double track curve ?. The curve can be altered a bit,and at present is as Outer and Inner track on my 8x4 Layout. Or would I make the cuved crossing myself and by the normal straight crossing single line and adapt and improvise(Clint Eastwood's best order from "Heartbrake Ridge"). I am the same age.

HO / What type of Freight Car Is This
July 02, 2008, 05:39:33 AM
I have a Burlington Northern 50ft. Car which looks like a box car but has 10 opening hatches on the roof,and4 under floor discharge shutes. It is car # BN 413328,capacity 192000. I bought it second hand but do not know just what it is called,or it;s manufacturer. It does not have the metal coupler box covers like Athearn.,but they are  plastic moulded with the frame. The sides of the car have vertical steel ribs. It is green all over .

HO / Transition Curves Small Layout
June 26, 2008, 06:19:44 PM
I have an 8x4 Layout and naturally there is a tight squeeze for all the good ideas like switching tracks  etc.,but though most of my stock negotiates the worst of these,I am thinking of altering  some main line curves by the addition of a small piece of straight track,as in real railroads. Is there any rule of thumb for say 18" Curves ? Length of small piece of straight track,or just where it would fit without creating a bag alignment ?
My latest Loco,Spectrum Consolidation, does not like the Peco long curve point sections, but does not derail, though it needs relief here. Only run 4wheel Diesels, and 40 ft Box Cars etc. Think Small is the motto.

HO / Bachmann GP50 Norf/Sth.Changeover Body
June 07, 2008, 05:34:45 AM
I bought a Bachmsnn GP50 Diesel last year,to clear a credit I had with a Hobby Shop.
For my 8x4 Layout I needed a 2truck model and with DCC. My choice was very limited and a decision was made quickly. Hence the N/Sth, model . I would have preferred either UP,SP,SFe,but these may not run GP50's,
Does anyone know what other diesel bodies I could look for, that would fit over this Bachmann unit .Where could I buy one ? I go to buy&sells frequently, and spare bodies are nearly always on sale, which would be OK if I new what my choices were ?

I have bought from some British Hobby Shops, and their policy was postage at cost.
Is there any U.S.Dealers that would give you an option of this.?
$22 and $52 International Postage for a medium envelope of Decals is a bit stiff.
Any help here ? >:(

HO / 4-4-0 Jupiter Trouble Down Under
December 26, 2007, 03:28:07 AM
After running my new 4-4-0 American Richmond,my old and trusty Jupiter 4-4-0 out--shopped 1998,suddenly refused to go.
Never having been undone, wheel and pick ups cleaned regularly,it took 9 years for the "Gunk" to clog up the electric motor.
Took off the tender cover, and there was the problem -. Cleaned it up and after re-soldering the motor hook up wires which came off because of my fiddling,re-assembled everything several times .
The  motor runs.but not real fast, -- old age ?
Now I cannot get the drive universal shaft to mate properly, whist the motor runs, there is no mechanical grip, the shaft seems to slip ?
It may need a new motor ? Beautiful old Loco , what should I do ?

HO / Spectrum 4-4-0 Down Under
December 08, 2007, 05:45:08 PM
My Spectrum 4-4-0 arrived yesterday, and after a "goof off" by myself,it runs very well.
Having read the test in MR as advised by the forum,I knew it wasn't one of the world's heaviest haulers, and did not expect otherwise.
However, after hooking up my 3 Bachmann 47ft.Old Time Coaches, which look great for the loco,it struggled around my 8x4 Layout and slipped badly on a couple of curves.
Disappointment set in instantly, and I thought of the MR report, yet it did say it had pulled over 30 cars on straight track.
In this dilemma,I picked up the pilot on the track in front of me,and behold -? -I found that small piece of black foam still packed under the 4wheel truck. No wonder it had trouble pulling. I pushed the pilot back into place, not easy for an "oldie",looking at black on black.
It runs very well with about 6 x47ft.Coaches,or 10 Olds Time freight cars. Most of my stock has been weighted, and short trains are the limit on my "Interchange Type Layout"

HO / 8x4ft.U.S.HO Layout Plans Wanted
November 10, 2007, 01:06:29 AM
I am wishing to build a U.S.Prototype Layout, and am restricted to 8x4ft. Max,
I must be crazy to dismantle and re-build a new layout, but I am anxious to get back into the scenery thing again. Motive power would be Bachmann,0-6-0  Switcher,4-4-0 Old American, and perhaps 4-4-0 Modern American, and a 4-6-0 . Any diesels would be small,4 wheel trucks. Most books have a few small layouts, but I am wondering if plans could be obtained on my computer ?. I am thinking country style, mining, logging, farming ,but always thinking old and small. Thanks for any ideas.

HO / Buying newBachmann from USA
October 23, 2007, 03:25:14 AM
Before I had a computer,I got my daughter to ask the price of a loco on special in MR,and all she got back was $25 shipping charge.Tried again and on Emailing asked the total price and got the answer"I am not near the stock".Big time hobby dealers.
Now I am partlly PC literate,I am ready to buy one but am hesitant to try.
I have bought a few items from England (one made in theUS),and get good feedback and info, plus quick service.
Could anyone suggest a dealer unlike the big advertiser,no service ?

I am hoping to buy a Spectrum 4-6-0 and would appreciate any advice on the fitting of a decoder.Don't know how the drive train works,or where the motor is situated. Info hard to get from dealers. I have done Athearn Diesels, and Heritage 0-6-0 Switcher.so far. Thanks for your interest in this project.
