HO / Water Tanks from old Tenders
September 30, 2007, 06:42:05 AM
Did the Railroads use old Coal Tenders for emergency water filling for steam locos on branch lines or remote stations ?.
If so were they elevated to allow the water to flow down into the steam engine alongside? Electric pumps etc.may not be available in such places.
Some have been used for many purposes in Australia, but I am modelling in HO US prototype. Not a rivet counter, but like to get models as realistic as modest skills permit

HO / Larger Steam Loco than Old American 4-4-0 wanted
September 13, 2007, 03:22:21 AM
I would like to know if there is a second generation 4-4-0 Steam Locomotive that I could buy in the Bachmann range.
I have a Jupiter, and some small Overton MDC Cars, but have recentlly bought a set of 3 Bachmann Old Timers 47ft. I had a Model Power 4-6-0 but could not keep it on my tight curve tracks. It ran well at my train club on broad curves, The problem was the front 4wheel truck kept lifting off. No help or advise could fix it. Sold it and runs OK on buyers k]larger layout.
I downsized some time ago to 8x4,using some Peco Curved points. An old club member told me that loco would never negotiate Peco Curved Points,he had the same experience.
A 4-6-0 would be nice, but what is available that would tolerate the above curves?.

August 07, 2007, 08:07:26 AM
I have acquired two Roundhouse 57ft.coaches,and I would like to know their correct title. My measurement was taken by an HO Scale Rule.
They have the old time  upraised roof, and end platforms.
Are they Harriman Cars ?
Hope you can enlighten me.

HO / Bachmann GP50 New other bodies that fit
July 04, 2007, 06:08:23 AM
I have  a Bachmann GP50 High Nose Diesel bought new,a good model. However I would have preferred a different road name, and I wonder what other Bachmann bodies would fit this model,if I saw one selling at a "Buy&Sell"meet. I am confident in doing a little nip & tuck if necessary, but would like one that fits this chassis. Can you help here ?

HO / Bachmann GP50 Norfolk&Southern
June 16, 2007, 07:19:41 PM
I have just bought aGP50 Bachmann Norfolk&Southern Diesel. My choice would have been UP,SP.AT&SF,for my compact 8x4 Small Town Interchange Layout, with tight curves and numerous switching spurs, preferring 4wheel trucks and 40ft.cars.
Circumstances at the hobby shop demanded a quick purchase due to relocation, and I am asking if Norfolk&Sth.had any GP50 diesels and would they ever have met up with any of the above railroads ? I looked up Norfolk& Sth.Historical Society, but could not find any GP50,s.

HO / Doodlebug Spectrum Spares
June 13, 2007, 06:24:38 PM
My 1997 Doodlebug has a knock in the gear box and my repair man tells me it has a crack in the gear/axle drive, and spare parts are not available .
He has tried world wide to no avail.
Recently he did a repair on my 1975 Fleischmann DB 103 Electric, requiring a similar part, and after some waiting, the loco back on roster.
The Doodlebug  still runs,it is a very nice model, any suggestions ?

Atlas Master DCC Diesel stopped running whilst on DC Mode on my layout.
Wiring by separate plugs to track, completely isolates DCC from DC ..
Tried loco on DCC mode but no mpvement.Roco Lolmaus #2 Manual suggests  speed
steps wrong,so I corrected this but to no avail. My system is basic and only supports one
accessory, headlights, which work as per direction of controller.
Loco is 4yrs old and regularly used on my USA style 8x4  "Small Town" country
interchange.I have had similar problems with locos(my fault) and have always been able to follow manual and restart.I am a Septuagenarian, and not so smart on I.T. or
digital ,but still moving forward in this great hobby. Any suggestions welcome .
