HO / Decoder & Sound into an older Spectrum Connie 2-8-0
November 20, 2013, 10:55:13 PM
I may be able to buy a well cared for Spectrum 2-8-0 which a Club Friend has had for some years. He is changing to all Diesel. My question is do any of our Forum Friends put Silent and or Sound Decoders into these older Spectrum Connies ?. I would be satisfied if it could only be adapted for D C C,should sound be too difficult. Thanks to all,Owen

HO / Noisy old Athearn SD40 with Mashima Motor
October 15, 2013, 03:54:19 AM
I have just bought this well kept older Athearn SD 40 Diesel which has been fitted with a Mashima Can Motor. It came from a reliable source, and I am not unhappy with the  purchase as the price was right.I have never owned a Mashima Motor unit before.
Experience tells me most old Athearns are  a bit noisy, and I have no argument with that.
Without the body it is still very noisy. Are there any suggestions to reduce this above normal   noise ?. Thanks for  any suggestions. Owen

Thanks Joe,If you thought there would be room for a sound decoder,I might try,but a silent one would do. Owen

I bought a second hand Bachmann Union Pacific DD 40 AX Diesel Loco at a Buy&Sell today, and it has no handrails. It runs very well, and all lights work as new. Has the Forum got any clues on buying a set of handrails to suit ?,or will I have to make  them up ?.  Also what is the recommended decoder for this loco  ?. I believe it has two motors ?.  Thanks for any help here,I love the big brute.

HO / Bachmann HO School Bus Decals Wanted
May 01, 2013, 09:01:33 PM
My Bachmann HO School Bus is operating very well, both on my 10x5 layout, and at my Train Club over a vast network, with much admiration from members.
Could the Forum advise me where to look for suitable Decals to detail it . I am familiar with some of these manufacturers, but perhaps  someone knows  of a quick search option from their own experience. Thanks

RichG, Thanks ,I think I created a short circuit recently and blew a decoder. I  I put a resistor on the blue wire. However that is the past,I will stick to your  advice and put resistors only on the white and yellow wires.

HO / LED Instrallation Front and Rear Lights for DCC
April 14, 2013, 06:30:02 PM
In fitting a Silent Running  decoder in a diesel loco, how should the front and rear led lights be wired, when this decoder supports both lights.Blue  and white for the front, and blue and yellow for the rear ?.
Thanks

HO / Re: Lake Wobegon Mills-Powdermilk Biscuits Box Car
February 21, 2013, 08:48:16 PM
H,   Doneldon, Thanks for your input. My friend who started all this with his knowledge of the Radio Show, said  he thought a Club may have made this car up as a "gimmick"in the same manner as the Show ?. There was no box for it, and he suggests that I write a brief history for it,and keep it.That is for the present ?.
As for the wheels,I may have changed these over from all plastic,as I do with models from sales,to update them, roll better etc.,but at 82,one forgets such things sometimes. Regards Sunshine Express

Photo failed.I need instructions. How do I get them on my computer, I am 82 and trying to stay in the loop ?.
More forensic examination has shown the following ;
1.Roof and ribs are brass.Ribs separate.
2.Frame is metal
3.Floor is wood
4.Grab irons & steps wire (like Roundhouse kit)
5.Wheels are metal with plastic axles
6.Body & ends feels like wood,not plastic.(not proven0
Any  fine paint removing can easily fixed, only flat black used.

HO / Lake Wobegon Mills-Powdermilk Biscuits Box Car
February 19, 2013, 06:49:08 PM
I recently bought an old blue wooden box car or reefer with arch bar trucks, which had a company's products on it,and put it in the "Old Time"collection,to run with my Spectrum old steamers.I do not know the brand of it.
It reads Lake Wobegon Mills -P M B X 1603582794,with logo Powdermilk Biscuits "Has your family tried them, heavens they"re tasty".
I took it to my train club yesterday, and ran it with a mixed freight consist ,and one of my mates spotted it and told me the story of "Lake Wobegon". He has listened to the radio show for years, where this name came from.He thought this car was part of a model railroad production run ?
I looked up Google, and got the whole story about the author, but would now like to know more about the actual model box car/reefer's provenance ?.  Can the Forum assist here ?.
