Sherwood,
I mounted the stock MRC speaker on a 1-1/2" cardboard tube/baffle and mounted that inside the engine on top of the metal underframe.  I used hot glue to do the job.  The speaker is pointing up, I cut a notch in the cardboard for the wires.

With the metal grille openings on the E7 the sound has a good escape route.  The horn and whistle are surprisingly loud, the diesel rumble is not as loud but still loud enough to hear as the engine with 5 passenger cars goes around the layout.

From what I've read on other forums, a baffle will help no matter what side of the speaker face it's on.  It keeps the sound from the back cancelling out the sound from the front.

I wish MRC would sell the speakers separately, I'd replace a couple of speakers in some older MTH engines.
hey try this web site once there click on products then click on accessories and about at the bottom they have 2 different speakers you can get from them. http://www.electricrr.com/

Actually, in Alcos, the PA was the passenger unit with a cab, the PB was the passenger unit without the cab.  Same as freight:  FA and FB!
i know but the last ime I posted that on here I was corrected as williams list both as PA so trying to advoid that knowing williams was wrong or bachmann who ever I just went ahead and listed it as PA-1 B-unit. LOL seems however I do I'm getting a comment.

I have so far taken a Williams PA-1 B-unit ( dummy) and added Tmcc and coil couplers I also have added hand rails to where the molded ones are on the B-unit. Just wondering if any body else has done any thing to theres or similar to what I have to customize there engine/car.
Here are some befor and after pics of the B-unit with hand rails

after

down the road the trucks and the fuel tank will get painted silver to match the Lionel PA-1 engine the only reason the Williams will be not the Lionel is the Lionel fuel tank is molded to the cab and the Williams screws off so It will be easier to do than the Lionel here is a pic of the 2 together at present yes the Lionel is dark Grey with lighter Grey stripes where the Williams is the black with lighter Grey stripe paint scheme and yes NYC did both.

Let me add into here a moment Lionel offered what was know as O and O-27 O being the higher rail but in the ( this is where it gets tricky) smaller track that they called O-27 they did offer some wider radius track but because everyone called it O-27 which wasn't correct they would say they had O-54 in O-27 track  ??? yeah now the real question is, is Williams track the higher rail which is know as O or the smaller rail which most call O-27 even thou it really all is O gauge just different heights, thickness and radius

Believe bachmann and even williams did state that all trains will work on O-31 unless otherwise stated meaning it probably needs the O-42 Sorry

Lee just a guess but back some time ago Lionel didn't renew or wasn't able to renew there lease to K-line items and from reports given Atlas bought rights to some items , RMT got some rights to some items and Williams was suppose to get use of some also so what your seeing may be because of that. To me it sounds like an improvement on the cars. I have some Williams engines that have 3 axles and the wheels closest to center are not flanged I would prefer if they were going to do that to do it to the center axle but I like all 3 sets flanged the best.
Sounds like you got a nice set there.

Williams by Bachmann / Re: Power Compatibility

Okay first yes it will work fine with a power-master or a TPC-300
2nd I added tmcc from ERR to my PRR Trainmaster and it was well worth it to me I also rewired the motors so they were in series which also helped a lot. I have a lot better control of the engine with TMCC than I did before. I rewired the engine to series about a year before I added tmcc to it. now for resale value I don't think adding tmcc really helped it any but since i don't plan on selling it it was a good investment to me. I can still always run it in conventional mode also anytime I want.

when I said set I ment the boxes as I'm sure they wouldn't have it on the engine. The set was not per-say a set bought that way actually I bought all 4 pieces separately but in there original boxes with paperwork and seems it said it may or may not have sound that was an add on on only some units. any way I don't have them anymore so can't be 100% sure what it did or didn't say. just know what it did lol.

Williams had a few versions in the past and only the Crown Edition had what might be compared to crew talk or pre-recorded announcements that had "Train 10 clear on track 15". The circuit board was produced by QSI and installed inside the Williams at time of sale.

Some of the other Williams engines had a horn, if so equipped.

True Blast 2 came in to production just before being sold to Bachmann, or was the last of Williams new products.

Alli know I had a set of Sharknose B&O (A-B-B-A) and all were in same type of boxes none said crown edition and both Bunits i think would state engine xxx clear to go and then the you would hear engine xxx departing and I do believe it was QSI system in it. But this set was not marked crown edition any wear. and when I called Williams one time because the system went out or rather to garble in one they said it was unreplaceable . It was what was in there older trains . and as far as trueblast 2 they had that at least 5 years befor selling to Bachmann as my virginian set has it and I bought that in like 2004

My old Williams trainmaster I was talking about came with none when I got it and it didn't show of any evidence it ever had any so I thinking some never did. now with that said some actually had a type of crew talk it would as you applied power to it would say something like engine 951 your clear to go and then you would hear engine 951 departing number may be wrong but they all said the same thing no matter what engine you had. The also had a system which I guess was true blast one or just troubles that was in my opion better which was like older Lionel's just a horn and you had control over how long it sounded ( or someone replaced what was in the one I got never did take cab off to look in that one so not sure) so in short you have maybe tru-blast one, no sound , tru-blast 2 and then the one that was kinda like crew talk to my knowledge that covers basically what they had. Now which one his had could help date his engine better.

I have O-42 and O-54 in gar graves so thats not the problem I was just wondering what I had that would run on O-27

Marty this was started by a guy on CTT forum and he says on the cab of the engine right under the window I'm starting to think it may have been a repaint someone did years ago as I myself never seen that high of a number on a model train.
