Title: Loose Wheels on a first run 4 4 0
Post by: GAM on November 22, 2008, 01:59:38 PM
The wheels on my 4 40  are loose. How do I remove the covers on the wheels to get at the screws that hold the wheels. They look like to be plastic covers but they don't want to come out. Whats the best way to remove them

Gam,
The covers can be a very tight fit.

This picture should give you the information necessary to remove the caps.  As you can see, I use an X-ACTO knife to "pop" the caps off.

Recommend you use Loctite 222 on the threads to insure the screws stay tight.  Don't use any Loctite stronger than 222 if you ever want to take the screws out.  If no Loctite 222 then clear nail polish on the screw threads will also work.

You may notice the locomotive pictured is the Mogul.  Drivers on the 4-4-0 American and the Mogul are the same.
