Title: Power taps?
Post by: dragonbusa on June 03, 2017, 01:16:52 PM
One more ? while I'm at. At how many feet of track do you start adding power taps? With the slot cars I find under 50 feet you don't need them, But the train motors are doing maybe 100 fold the work. Thanks for the help you guys give I'm really enjoying the trains. Should have bought one along time ago.

depending on the size of your layout would determine how many but my rule of thumb is there is never too many.
I run feeders every 3 feet on a 16x30 layout

my thinking is on flex track to solder rail & jumper every 6 foot.  That way you would never be more than 3 feet from a jumper.

My test Figure 8 is 13-14 ft. total track once around.
I have one feeder at the diamond.
Using my DMM, the maximum power drop at any place on the test track is .05v.
Visually there is no difference in speed.
