On30 / Re: what does everybody want after the Heisler?
October 13, 2011, 05:46:08 PM
Hi Guys,
While I would love to see a K-27 or K-28, as I said in an earlier posting, I think the idea of a small Garratt that "rayport" suggested would be brilliant. The Tasmanian K1 0-4-0 + 0-4-0 would be a perfect prototype for Bachmann to manufacture as it has very clean lines, which would make it easy to build, the protoype is in running condition in England and would be available for research, and it fits in with the small loco theme that Bachmann has been doing. I don't think pick-up would be a problem, as was suggested on another posting, as it would have 8 wheel pick-up. On any sort of reasonably laid trackwork I don't believe there would be any problem at all with that many wheels picking up.
Keep railroading, and have fun doing so.

Hi Guys,
I agree with Mr Shay. I would love to see a K-27 or K-28 done, but first of all let's give Bachmann a chance to get the production of the Heisler completed, before everyone starts hassling them again for another new model.
Happy Railroading.

On30 / On30 Heisler
July 09, 2011, 12:22:06 AM
Congratulations Bachmann, and thank you, for announcing the On30 Heisler many of us have been hoping and waiting for. Is there any hope that you will do a factory fitted sound version?
Can you post some photos on the forum to keep us happy while we wait for it to come, or can some-one who has been to the covention post some photos of it, if there was a pilot model on display. Thanks.

Hi slack,
Many years ago Shinohara sold turnouts that were made to be curved to the radius you needed (within sensible limits). You may be able to find a couple of these if you advertise for them.
Otherwise Peco make curved turnouts that will probably solve you problem.

Hi JerryB,
I appreciated your recent input to this thread, but felt the need to correct a slip-up you made.
Unless Bob Brown has sneaked a new wife onto the scene without telling us, his wife is Irene.
I am in Australia and attended the 1984 Narrow Gauge convention in Denver where I met Bob & Irene.
I still have occasional communication with them and a nicer couple you could not wish to meet.
This is not a criticism of your posting, just a minor correction.

Hi Guys,
I thought you might all have something better to do with your time than post what has been posted on this thread; like getting on with your model railroading. Everyone may have a different idea about how the different scales/gauges should be described, but at the end of the day what does it matter, and why should anyone be directed to follow the dictates of ANYONE else.
Leave it alone and get on with enjoying your railroading.

On30 / Re: CLIMAX AND SHAY DRIVES
January 16, 2011, 04:58:27 PM
Hi Guys,
I have had problems with a few Bachmann On30 locos I have purchased from the USA over the last couple of years, and have needed parts to get them right, including a new drive line for a Shay.
I have contacted Bachmann's service dept. by phone on at least one occasion, and by E-Mail at other times, and I have had no major problems getting the parts supplied, and shipped to Australia.
Some time back I had the normal problems with the drive train in a Rail Truck and Bachmann USA had no more gears to supply at that time, but they directed me to Bachmann UK where I was able to get enough bits to make it work again (after having to ring their service dept. to stir them into action to actually do something about shipping the parts they had already quoted on).
Having fitted those parts to the Rail Truck it still didn't run smoothly, so I did a major rebuild on it and fitted a Portescap drive unit to it with a Soundtraxx Galloping Goose sound decoder.
I now have a Rail Truck that runs like a Swiss watch, and sounds great as well.
I believe if you approach Bachmann's Service Dept. in the right manner they will do what they can to help you.

Thank you Frisco,Ivrr235 and Tomcat for your response to my question.
I have had a look at the site and noted they are closed at the moment.
As other things are needed I will keep a check on what they have, after they open again.

Hi Ivrr325,
I have been following the thread on the 2-6-6-2 and was interested in your comment about the prices you quoted that they were being cleared at. I am outside of America so if I should understand your terminology about where you got them I don't. Can you let me know where these prices were at. Might be helpful in the future. I paid a lot more than that for my 2-6-6-2 and had to pay a fair amount in shipping of course, but I am real pleased with the loco.

On30 / On30 4-6-0 with sound

Can the Bach Man tell me when the On30 4-6-0's, with sound, are due to be delivered?

On30 / On30 2-8-0 Motor HumI
February 02, 2010, 10:02:07 PM
I purchased a Bachmann On30 2-8-0 some time ago which has only been test run occasionally up until now.
When I begin to apply power to the motor (using an NCE Procab system), the motor hums quite a bit before the loco moves. The hum slowly disappears as the loco accelerates. I suspect it is the chopped DC that our DCC systems feed the motors that is causing the hum, but do not know enough about it to know if it is the motor or the DCC decoder that is the real problem ( or both ).
Can anyone enlighten me as to the cause, and also tell me if there is a relatively easy way to stop this hum, as it is a bit annoying.

On30 / Re: Potential Heisler prototypes for Bachmann!
January 19, 2010, 05:31:11 PM
Hi all you Heisler devotees. The RGS never had any Heislers as far as I know, but if Bachmann do an On30 Heisler, I think the better looking one is the Silver Creek unit, and I would have to have at least one, if not more, as I am a geared loco fanatic.

Hi mabloodhound,  Thanks for your response, but you may have noticed that Bachmann DID do the #1 Goose.
I suspect an answer from the Bach Man would be based on the end result of that project.

On30 / RGS Geese
January 19, 2010, 01:12:06 AM
I am an RGS fan and have the Bachmann #1 Rail Truck, of course. I also have 5 of the PCM Geese, all in On30. I have a total of 21 various motive power units, some of which are D&RGW, others which are neither RGS or D&RGW but I will run them because I like them and have a particular interest in them (e.g. Bachmann Shay & Climax amongst others).
It appears there are no plans for anyone to do On30 models of RGS Geese Nos. 2, 6 &7 at the moment.
I would like to ask the Bach Man if it is possible to get Bachmann to look at doing them, preferably in the following order :- #7 first, #2 next, and then #6 (as we already have the #1 Rail Truck).
