Many thanks for the help.

Thanks also to Polis for the link, from it I've also manage to find a listing for a shop closer to home.

I've just ordered a Bachmann HO 2-8-0 w/DCC, SF #2511 BAC51311 from a shop in the states and am wondering if there is an easy way to fit the "Thomas" style couplings to it. The same question also applies to the 1860 - 1880 Passenger Car
Part #: 13401.

For those who may be wondering why, the "Thomas" type coupling (or a version of it) is standard to most British rolling stock and while the Kadee looks great it would be uneconomic for me to convert to it.

Regards

It might be worth checking to make sure theres no oil on the wheels or rail. Since it doesn't take much to make wheels spin, it's possible that it will hardly be noticeable. Consequently it might be worth giving everything a quick clean.

Another thought (I am not familiar with this model) is it supposed to have traction tyres? If yes are this missing?

Hope this helps

Does anyone know where I can get Bachmann US products in the UK?

Hi Searsport,

I note what you say about Kader, although my Bachmann GWR Churchward Mogul body was a straight swap for my original mainline version I was not so lucky with the Collett 0-6-0 (original mainline chassis) though it did fit the later one after removing some internal plastic. The 57XX pannier was even worse, the screw holes didn't even line up.

Also new Bachmann bogies will not fit onto the older Kader Collett coaches. However some spares are interchangeable. I think even if Kader use some old toolings in their UK range the models have evolved.

I should also add that in n gauge I have a small 0-4-0 tender loco made by Alas that I bought for a 009 kit designed for the Bachmann version. On comparing them I found the two quite different internally so I wouldn't be supprised if Bachmann UK do things very differently to Bachmann US.

HO / Spare Parts

I've just been looking through your spare parts and notice that there are a few for the Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle still available. The body shell looks like a red version of the GWR Modified Hall produced by Bachman UK. Are these two basically the same model?

General Discussion / Re: Point to point

I don't know about the states but point to point or end to end layouts are quite a popular form of model railway in the UK (probably because we had so many short branch lines before the 1960's).

Many of these have a small terminus station at one end (with a goods yard where hunting can take place) and some "hidden" storage sidings at the other which represents the rest of the world. This can add a little more interest and purpose since the trains appear to go somewhere else rater than just be moved around a yard.
