Title: Changing Headlight on RIchmond 4-4-0
Post by: Phil Padgett on January 29, 2013, 04:46:18 PM
Looking for advice on how to replace the stock headlight on the HO Richmond 4-4-0 with a brass casting while KEEPING the LED operational.

Doing my second conversion of one of these little gems to model a Canadian Pacific prototype (CPR No.95).  For the first conversion (No.29) I was able to do all the modifications with the stock headlight on the locomotive.  Great fun but, this time, I have to bite the bullet and install a modified Cary arc light.

Thanks!

If you want to reproduce the carbon arc lamp. I would suggest an intense white, not yellow or bluish tint. I did some research a few years ago on the carbon arc lamps. The lamps where so bright, a loco meeting another loco had to shut down the light, including when coming into a station. A low wattage light bulb in the fixture was turned on at that time.
