On3 track gauge is three quarters of an inch (because American O scale is a quarter inch to the foot.) On30 is the same scale but runs on HO gauge track which is approximately 5/8 of an inch so the On3 is about 1/8th inch wider.

On30 got its start in the 1970s when people began to make models that were O scale but ran on HO track.
do you think it would still be possible to run On30 on On3 or On3 on On30

i think this is a great loco but it needs to  be included in sets so more people can have longer life span of these engines and i would also like to see more paint schemes for it,  maybe a D&RGW one with a pre 1940 herald but a post 1910 herald

General Discussion / Trainfest 2011
November 13, 2011, 11:20:42 PM
i had a great time at trainfest this sunday... all the layouts, vendors, displays, and manufactures were great. i had a couple of questions though about bachmann and there display... first off i saw something that i think i would love to have on my layout. it was a on30 2-6-0 painted with a early rio grande scheme and a green boiler. i see a rio grande engine on the bachmann list but with no picture. also i bought a NIB bachmann on30 shay that's about 5yrs old there and was wondering if these had bad problems. when this engine runs it only will be for about 2hr at max because its a Christmas layout. i just want to hear any problems that these have. thank you for your help

neet great idea for using running trams from the mines. do you think you are going to use the bachmann 0n30 side dump ore cars because these look great. keep up the great work and hope to see your layout in GR for years to come.

Why not produce some limited runs on the roadnames?

Royce
because its the best idea I've read on a forum in the past 10mn its a great idea to be able to custom order road names on all RR i would have a silverton northern no 34 2-8-0 because i compared the engine i have to a scale drawing in a book about the Silverton routes and it was almost exactly the same (and conveniently drawn to on30)
