I'm sure I'm not the only one who's had problems with zinc happen on the 1:20.3 Scale Spectrum Diecast Trucks on the Murphy Roof Boxcars.  All 3 of mine have had their trucks come down with zinc rot.  I was able to buy replacement ones for one, and get one replacement truck for another, but they're now out of stock and I can't buy anymore.
Do ones from Accucraft or Ozark Miniatures work?
Also do you think Bachmann will produce a new batch given that they're ALWAYS producing batches of metal diecast trucks for the Spectrum Shays?
Any answer will help, thank you!

The D axles have remedied the problem of the older splined gear designs of the constant splitting and breaking.
However if you can't get ahold of the D shaped gear and axle, your best bet is to order an after market drive gear from Northwest Shortline.  Those will last you forever and never break given the thicker plastic.
They used to sell the metal gears from the newer spectrum Moguls, but because someone posted about converting their 2008 4-4-0 American from having a plastic gearbox to a metal gearbox on social media, many others jumped on the band wagon, and the bronze gear boxes from the 2017 Moguls sold out like hotcakes.
So best bet, Northwest Shortline gears.

There was supposed to be a Pennsylvania Railroad model of the new 4-6-0 in the line up since it was in the drawings when first announced.  Now I don't see it.  Was the Pennsylvania model cancelled, or was it accidentally left out?

I noticed that when the 4-6-0s were first announced, a Pennsylvania Railroad model of the new 4-6-0 was in the line up, but now I see that the Pennsylvania Railroad 4-6-0 is not in the new line up like originally announced.  The engine had a beautiful paint scheme, and cap stack, and it was the 4-6-0 I was most interested in.  Do we know if the Pennsylvania 4-6-0 has been cancelled from the new line up, or has it been accidentally left out of the new line up?

The newer generation Moguls, Climaxes, C-19s, and new Big Hauler 4-6-0s coming out soon, are the models we'll want to invest in, because they're built with good quality construction for a reason.  They were built to last, and if properly maintained, can probably last for decades.  Yes the paint will wear off, but we can always find someone whose skillful enough to touch up the paint with the right colors, or weather them as far as cosmetics go, but mechanically, they should last us a long time without needing parts replaced as long as their maintained right.
Phoenix Sound and Tsunami I believe will also be around for a while because they'll always be demand for sound units, but if you're looking for newer model trains from Bachmann to get, best it be the newer generation Climaxes, C-19s, 2-6-0s, and 4-6-0s since they're probably are gonna be the ones that last a long time as parts become more scarce.

I am also dissappointed with the Large scale parts division offerings.

If we can't get the new engines, we should at least be able to get the parts needed to keep our older Bachmann engines running otherwise we are looking for dead donor engines to pop up on ebay or having to buy a second new engine to cannibalize for parts and that's a waste.
Otherwise we're looking at possibly having to build the parts ourselves from scratch which takes a lot of time and labor like on the real engines.

For the Bachmann Spectrum Climax, Shay, Heisler, and 45-ton Diesel, replacement trucks should be readily available, circuit boards should be readily available, for the 2-8-0s, 4-4-0s and 2-6-0s, the new metal gearboxes and axles should be readily available along with replacement metal pilot and tender trucks now that North West Shortline is out of business.
Cosmetic parts such as bells whistles, smoke stacks, and headlamps, domes, cabs, cross head pumps, and handrails would be nice to have readily available, but not as essential as drive train components, structural components, and circuit boards like cylinder assemblies, boiler assemblies, power trucks, motors, gear box assemblies, pilot, and tender trucks.
I understand the lack of new inventory, but at the very least, we can have replacement parts readily available to keep our older engines in working order as parts and components wear out over time.  And some of those parts that have run out of stock, are not being re-stocked, and the parts department is almost never helpful over the phone, so it's very disappointing that not only the new inventory is lacking, but the lack of availability of replacement parts inventory.

I actually agree with this.

Also expanding the inventory would be nice, and replenish the parts that are out of stock.

Hello everyone.

Here's the thing, I am working on converting my Spectrum 4-4-0's pilot/cow-catcher from the stock wood to the new strapped steel from the 2017 Mogul.  Now, I have the part, but the pilot doesn't fit.   In order to make it fit, I know some cutting from a dremel has to be done, but I fear of ruining my engine.  Also unfortunately only the steel cowcatcher is sold in the parts stock from the 2017 Mogul and not the ENTIRE assembly including the front pilot deck.  If the entire pilot assembly was including then it was be an easy swap of, swapping out the entire pilot assembly and not have to worry about making modifications to the 4-4-0's existing pilot deck.

Is there a way I can get the ENTIRE pilot assembly from the 2017 Mogul, and NOT just the cowcatcher, or are there tricks and tips in easy modifications that I can do to the existing pilot deck with out having to worry about ruining my engine?

Any help would be appreciated.

Large / Re: New product suggestion

A good suggestion, maybe a rerun of the Eureka & Palisade number #4, but more accurately done in the more prototypical colors, a model of Sonoma number #12 from the North Pacific Coast, the Jupiter number #3 from the Santa Cruz Railroad, and a Denver & Rio Grande 4-4-0.
Depending on road name, some should feature working cross head pumps like with the Moguls as well as the metal gears, tender trucks, and upgraded electronics.  Hopefully new 4-4-0s aren't too far down the road. :)

Large / Update parts inventory for the Spectrum Mogul
December 20, 2016, 02:55:22 PM
Hello

I am trying to order parts for the new Bachmann Spectrum Mogul because I am performing a restoration on an old Spectrum Mogul and hope to have the operating crosshead pump, and metal gear box.

However, the online parts inventory for the Spectrum Mogul is such a MESS!!!
You have parts from the Industrial Mogul that don't belong in the Spectrum Mogul's parts listing, and not enough parts are shown.

I have been trying to call the parts department for the past week, but every time I'd call, I've been left hanging on the line.

A couple weeks ago I spoke with the person in charge of the parts inventory, and he told me to call back in 2 weeks.
It's been 3 weeks, no change to the parts inventory, and I really need to get these parts.

I hope I can get an answer soon.

Thank you.

Large / New Generation Spectrum 2-6-0 Moguls Parts
November 10, 2016, 02:39:51 AM
Is it possible to order parts from the new generation Spectrum 2-6-0?

I'd like to make some modifications to my older Spectrum Moguls such as adding the crosshead feed water pumps, along with upgrading the gear boxes to the all bronze gears, and also revive a very beat up mogul that I used heavily in Hawaii that needs heavy repairs from corrosion and oxidation including a new boiler, cylinder set, and blind drivers.

So I was wondering if there's a chance if those parts are available because I don't see the new generation mogul parts on the online parts inventory.

Thank yo. :)

Large / Mogul Gear box upgrade
October 28, 2016, 04:22:11 AM
Hello.

I was wondering for when the new generation Mogul parts become available, will the metal bronze gears be interchangeable with the older moguls?  This is for if we wanted to upgrade the gears on the older generation moguls.   I have a good number of older generation Moguls, and even-though the North Western Short line drive gear is a good and long lasting remedy for the main drive gear failures on older moguls, the smaller idler gears have been known to fail, but fortunately have not yet failed on any of mine.
Still, I'd like to permanently fix the gear failure problems on my older generation moguls by upgrading the gears from plastic to all metal before they fail, so I was wondering if the new gears are interchangeable with the older Moguls.

Thank you. :)

Large / New Spectrum Mogul Parts
October 02, 2016, 06:07:40 AM
Hello.

I have a VERY old and beat up Spectrum Mogul that ran a lot on my garden Railroad on the Big Island of Hawaii.  Sadly the elements weren't so kind to her and the railroad, and now the engine is VERY badly beat up and needs A LOT of new parts including a new boiler, cylinder set, and tender trucks.

So I was wondering on when we can be expecting the parts of the newer generation Moguls to come in?

I plan on overhauling my Old Mogul and bringing it back to life by giving it the boiler, cylinders, and multiple other parts it will need from the newer generation engines.   The engine was kit-bashed and painted, so repainting won't be a problem, all that matters is getting the parts to rebuild the engine.
