Obviously the Big Boys were built for running long straight sections.
What lengths of straight running do we have in the US.
For the world record, it will probably be claimed by Western Australia.

The CSX (ex C&O) track from Newport News, VA to Richmond, Va and the NS (ex N&W) track from some point west of Norfolk, Va to Petersburg, Va, both distances of some 70 miles have few, if any, curves. In that 70 some miles the track gains some 75 feet of altitude, I think.

You may want a copy of SPV RR Atlas of the US.
Longest continuous tangent in the US:
Old Hundred mp 261 to East Arcadia mp 340, 78.86 miles.
This is in NC from roughly Hamlet to Wilmington CSXT (SAL) RR.

Not quite - Western Australia and South Australia - the straight stretch crosses the State border. The straight distance is 309 miles. Sources generally state that this is believed to be the longest in the world - any-one know of any longer?

Hamish K : I'll accept it. The claim has been around unchallenged since I can remember.
Do you think there is anything in Russia?
Yes, the longest tangent (straight) track is across the Nullabor Plain(Literally, 'No Tree Plain') in Austrailia.
