Title: 4-6-0 stock decoder question
Post by: NPRRCMandR on January 15, 2014, 05:32:38 PM
Hello all,

I am swapping out the stock Decoder board for a Soundtraxx board. There are 2 wires coming off the locomotive and going to pins marked "R" and "L".

The tender has red and black for electrical pickup. My question is, Are these 2 wires coming out of the locomotive as noted above pickups for the locomotive wheels as well?

Thanks

I would expect those to be for pickups but I would get my multimeter out and do a continuity check. Something I automatically do anyway when I use to do DCC installs.

If you look closely at the stock decoder board you will see....

"R" - Right pickup
"M+" - Motor Positive
"L+" - Light Positive
"L-" - Light Negative
"M-" - Motor Negative
"L" - Left Pickup

Or something similar on the pin outs that the wires connect too. They may be marked on the bottom of the stock decoder.
