The pink plastic strips that hold the ceiling lights are not part of the window strips.  The light strips are held up by the two/ three cross braces which you can pull out, releasing the lights. It should not be a problem.

I have never built a Xmas layout but will try to help.
First, could you be more specific about what you want to do.  You mention running 3-4 engines.  Would you run them all at the same time?  What will your layout consist of one loop, two loops or multiple loops?

Have I issed something?  It was once announced that the new "Annies" would be here in November, but I o not remember seeing any anouncement that they were here.  Also, the on-line dealers do not seem to be listing them as being on line.
