Hi everyone. In 2005 I bought a large scale Xmas set. Most of the couplings have failed and I now use cable ties.
I see part # 92420 - knuckle couplers. Think they will fit on my set?
These will fit for sure if your set had knuckle couplers when you bought it.

Thank you for your response.
Original set had different ones - maybe loop and hook?
Should I give the 92420 a shot?
Dear All,
Seems that every Big Hauler train set with knuckle couplers had hook and loops included in a plastic bag.
Does anyone have any in your junk drawer to give for postage?
I'm not sure how hook and loops would fail.
Would filing a new edge on the hooks revive them?
Are the hook arms stuck from dust or lint in their pivot points?
Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Joe Satnik
The zig zag plastic part that enables the hook to be up/down flexible falls off.
If hook and loops is what you have then try this:

Thanks again Bill;
Would be nice if I could just buy that zig zag piece.
Seems that I may be able to get the knuckle coupler to fit. Or maybe rig up a replacement zig zag part.
Either way I'll get it done and get rid of the cable ties.
The plastic spring has a point on one end, and a mounting tab with hole (for a Phillips head screw) on the other.
Has its point broken off?

How many springs do you need?
Joe

Dear wsommariva,
Sorry it took so long. Mandatory attendance at a Christmas Party. (Burp)
Lots of good advice in this thread:

Steve posted that he has couplers and springs.
More than likely he will send them to you for postage.
Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Joe Satnik
I think I have a few laying around msg me your adress and i'll send what I have.

Hey Joe and Narrow - thanks for the hookups on the hookups. Seems like a nice community you are in.
Back to the knuckles - I kind of like them and they are cheap. I think I can fit them or adapt them to my set. Seems everyone on both sites favor the hook and loop though. Think the knuckles are worth the try?
Hey your welcomed, the knuckels will likely screw right in place with out any mods.
The kuckes look better but for a train thats just going to run and run the Hook/loop couplers stay coupled better on uneven track.
NM-Jeff
Bummer. I think I'll try a homemade fix. I think a thin wire will work but will be bad for de-coupling. I'll look for thin long springs. If I can find them I think they will work well.
Ok, I took the train to my workbench. One OEM spring was broken and one of that parts where the OEM spring is inserted into was gone. One hook was backwards. So I bought metal 1/4" springs and inserted them with thin wire X 2. I reversed the backwards hook. Twenty trips around the track and they are all holding.
This my eight year with the set. After we're done with it I hope one of my kids take it.
Thanks for the help......now just to keep them from derailing......almost there
