Williams by Bachmann / How about a Union Pacific F3 ?
February 26, 2011, 06:05:38 PM
I would love to see Bachman paint up and sell Union Pacific F3 A-A units painted correctly like MTH and Lionel did them. All it would take is a paint job and there would be another model for Bachman to sell. Any chance you would considered it?

Have you checked it over carefully to see if maybe a screw or other piece of metal might be caught in the gear train? Nothing mechanically should have changed unless you dropped it.

Yes, and thats too bad for most of us as we had hoped to have them for Xmas. Bachman could have made a ton of cash before the end of the year too. Many people pre-ordered these.

I have the A-B- A set and the orange stripes on mine are orange without any hint of red.

Frank Timco makes a can motor replacement kit for Lionel 2333's.  THAT is the way to go. No cutting or modifying.

I like to use the Z-1000 transformer. It will allow slow start ups and supply 100 watts of power to boot.

I have found that older lionel post war transformers will not blow the true blast horns. However, my Z-1000 will everytime.

You will indeed lose top speed, but there can be another drawback. If your brick, or transformer does not put out at least 20 volts you may be unhappy with just how much speed you will lose. With my Z-1000 which puts out only about 17.00 actuall volts at top speed my Williams engine was too slow. I switched my engine back to original wiring.

All the rollers have side to side play. The really odd thing is sometimes they freeze up after sitting overnight. Other times they freeze up after 20 minutes or less. I can use electrical contact spray to free them up and they roll well for a while but then freeze back up. I have never had a roller freeze up on anything else before. I don't get it. I have used Atlas conductive lube as well but the same thing happens. In fact, the problem started shortly after using this product. I no longer use it.

After 2 months I still have the sticking roller problem.  I have cleaned them out with electrical contact cleaner and tried oil, no oil, you name it. After about an hour they freeze right up again. All 3 cars do this at both rollers.
Anyone else have this problem?

I switched my F3 and F7 diesels over to a 6-8 volt light bulb. Williams engines generally run at 6.5 to 7.5 volts(with factory wiring), even at a good clip. I have not had any of them burn out yet.

I used Atlas conductive lube on the rollers thinking it would be great for them. All it did was badly gum up the rollers to where they would not spin. I had to flush them out with alcohol and used WD-40 after that.  Be careful what you lube your rollers with.

An uncoated shell is what I seek. I am currently stripping an f3 shell. I have to give the company credit, that is some tough paint on those! Would be great to be able to buy an A-A paint your own road names set.
