Title: How to keep track of switch direction on DCC layout?
Post by: broncbob on January 06, 2015, 04:56:02 PM
I'm building a DCC layout for my son that has two crossovers and 4 switches. How can I keep track of what the switches are doing? Right now we are putting the track right on the board and letting him run it until we have everything fine tuned to his liking, but it's kinda frustrating for the both of us when we get lost as to what the switches are doing.

I am using EZ track and the crossovers and the switches are all DCC operated.

Unless there are contacts for controlling indicator lights built into the switch the instructions don't talk about, there's not a lot of options.

You might be able to use the manual throw lever to bump micro-switches controlling indicator lights on a control panel. Or possibly link it to a modified manual switch stand with built in contacts to control indicator lights. Something like: http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/97-220 (http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/97-220)

Caboose industries et al make a great throw as well as switch stand, which can be adapted to a slide switch for indicator LEDs.
