Title: GE 30-7 Decoder
Post by: dclyde on June 20, 2010, 07:16:22 AM
I recently acquired a GE B23/B30-7 and would like to add a decoder to this DCC Ready loco.  I have not been able to determine which decoder to use.  Based on a very quick look at the board, it does not appear to use a standard 8 pin connection.

Thanks for you help.

Dave

A DZ125 should be sufficient, but may not be small enough, if so go with a Z scale decoder. *DZ125, not sure where that 3 came from

It does not use an 8 pin connector. The loco is designed for a solder in decoder. There are 7 pads on the light board and a removable weight to make room for the decoder. With the weight removed just about any micro decoder will fit. I think a DZ125 might fit even with the weight in place.

The solder pads are numbered to correspond to the same pins on the 8 pin NMRA plug. The wiring pinout can be found here:
