Title: A question about lubing.
Post by: Dan W on December 19, 2015, 03:13:23 PM
I recently bought an order of different lubricants but did not buy a bottle of Bachmann heavy duty gear grease because it appears that it is for "larger" trains.

I tend to think of H.O. as "smaller" but my question is;

"Can the Bachmann heavy duty gear grease be used in the H.O. size locomotives?"

I have a Bachmann 4-4-0 as well as several other H.O. locomotives which need some work and want to do those right.

Thank You.

Dan

If you are looking for HO grease, just look for something with Teflon in it (PTFE) and no petroleum.  I find mine for less $ in stores like Walmart or Kmart in the fishing section.  Super Reel Grease, gray tube.  It works well for the plastic AND metal gears and costs much less than what is marketed for model trains.  A little goes a long way.

I thought that as well at first, but Bachmann advises using it on the gears in their HO instructional video:
