Sorry, my misunderstanding.

I went by the thread title.

Now we are even, you have a LS Heisler and the On30 group is still "anticipating".

let's all wish real hard and we may all be satisfied.  :)

It is listed as 1 : 20.3

Check (Red on left) Products < Large scale < motive power < page 2

No list price yet.

You have overused the "I'm still learning" reason for posting erroneous information. We are all still learning.

You cannot learn anything by providing information not known to be factual.  Be aware that misinformation can be detrimental if accepted and used by an unknowledgeable board reader.

The accepted way to make a statement without creating a backlash or undermining ones credibility is to do so in the form of a question. Other board members with the knowledge you have not yet gained will either correct or substantiate your information in the form of an answer.

This response is provided to help you regain credibility amongst your fellow board users.

HO / Re: Locomotive Loses Power

Some thoughts:

Using only the rails to distribute power throught a layout could be the source of the problem. There can be significant resistance in the rail and joiners. This resistance will result in a voltage drop (speed change) in proportion to the current drawn by a locomotive. This could be why the difference in effect (speed).

If you understand the above you know why large gauge buss wires and multiple feeds provide trouble free DCC operation.

You are not off topic as you are obviously attempting to TRAIN your dog.

The collar requires adequate signal strength from the wire to operate.

Creating a parallel route (passing siding) to broaden coverage will split the electrical signal between each route and reduce the signal strength significantly, by 50%ish.

The power source likely incorporates control circuitry that maintains signal strength independent of wire length.

I understand that you are using 400’ of a supplied 500’ of wire. The leftover 100’ could be spliced in making a continuous 500’ length and routed back upon itself (a switchback) creating three physically parallel but electrically in series antennas for a 50’ section each with full signal strength.

I hope you find a solution to the TRAINing of your dog.

Try http://www.modeltrainsoftware.com/dcflasher.html

They seem to have what you are looking for, both 3 & 5mm

HO / Re: Code 100 vs Code 83
February 08, 2008, 07:49:21 PM
An HO scale inch is .0115” actual measurement.

Code 100 is 8.7” in HO scale

Code 83 is 7.2”

Code 70 is 6”

Code 55 is 4.7”

Code 40 is 3.5”

Hope this helps.

The prototype convention of measuring rail size in pounds per yard is difficult to scale down to relevant scale rail size that is measured by height in thousandths of an inch. Code 70 is 0.070” high.

A conversion factor (Prototype to scale) that I find very useful is that an O scale inch is 0.020”. (1 ft = 0.25” scale size, divided by 12”/’ = 0.020823”)

Code 70 rail represents rail 3 ½“ high, very light in O scale.
Code 83 rail = 83/20 or 4 3/16” high.
Code 100 rail is 5” and so on and so on.

Possible, Yes:
In music reproduction the ear/brain cannot determine the location of sound frequencies below 200 Hz. Thus the advent of the multi channel sub woofer. The higher frequencies and overtones provide the location information.

Doable, Possibly:
Two problems to be overcome are synchronization and multiple sources. To maintain sync communication would be required between the loco and the separate base speaker. I can think of too many possibly impractical ways to list that this might be done.

Feasible?
The trick is going to be to avoid creating new standards by piggybacking the woofer “instructions” on top of or in addition to an existing standard.
I visualize a two part Sound and DCC decoder system one in the locomotive (tender) and the other “tuned” to drive the sub woofer. A single amplified common sub woofer would work for most home size layouts. A set of complementary sounds would be generated by the sub woofer decoder as instructed and synchronized by the locomotive decoder. UHF as in remote controls or more signals in the rails can be used to send addressed instructions to the sub woofer decoder.

Why not an add-on for base only?

Scale earthquakes anyone?

An expansion of Jonathan’s saw horse suggestion would be the use of the sheet metal fixtures that make a custom sized saw horse from 5 lengths of 2X4’s.
Another alternative, if the end height is suitable, would be the folding table legs available from Home Depot, Lowes or?

General Discussion / Re: explosives trains/wagons

The highway between Reno and Las Vegas goes through the town of Hawthorne Nevada. There is a large military ordinance depot on the south side of town consisting of what looks like explosion containing structures spread over at least a square mile.

We have had to stop on the highway while a switcher type locomotive pushed conventional 50’ box cars into the storage area.

These cars appeared to be either picking up or delivering ordinance.

S scale decals are 3/4 the size of O scale and may be suitable and fit?
