Title: Kadee # 5 centering spring
Post by: sloan on May 17, 2008, 12:28:29 PM
Does anyone know  why the centering spring "must" be installed on top pf the coupler ?...I've done several with it underneath and it seems to work just fine   Sloan

Probably because Kadee is trying to keep everyone on the same page.

The two sides of the spring work differently.  If you put it in below the coupler, delayed uncoupling will not work properly.  In some pockets, the spring will not be held by the centre pin and the coupler will not centre properly, making coupling difficult and false uncoupling easy.
