Large / LGB VS Aristo MIKADO
March 29, 2008, 08:52:32 AM
I have  been  offered  an  LGB  MIKADO  used  but  in  excellent  condition,  no  marks  scratches  etc.

I am  aware  that  there  were  some  gearbox? problems  with  these  locos.

The  price  being  asked  is  HIGH  reflecting  the scareceness of  the  LGB loco.

I will shortly  be  able  to  buy  a NEW  Aristo  Mike here in  the  UK  for  around  £280  (Approx$ 550) delivered.   Granted  this  would  be  neither  DCC or  Sound  fitted so  there  would  be  an  extra cost involved, but  even  so  the  NEW  Aristo one  works  out  Half  the  price  of  the  USED  LGB one.

Does  any  one  have  any  comments / suggestions??
Should  add  my  min  curve on line  is  R3 (8'Dia).

I know  that prices in  the  States  are lower  for  these  around ($370) but by  the  time  shipping  and importation  charges  & VATax is  added  theres  not  much  price  difference.

Large / K27 Counterweights succesfully installed
March 06, 2008, 10:21:28 AM
My  replacement  counterweights  arrived  today  from  Bachmann UK,  I have  succesfully  installed  them  on my K-27

I took  me  around  30 mins to  do  all 6.

I recommend  that, each  side  is  done  seperately,  start with   Axle  1,  when  this is  done  Axles  3 & 4  can  be  done  together,  then  repeat   for  the  other  side  of the  loco,  be  careful  not to  lose  the  bronze? bearing  from  the  con rods (mine  did not  even come out of place though)

I would  recommend   marking  the  OLD C Weights  so that  they never  get  confused  for  new  ones,  then  stack them in  your  loco yard, nice  bit  of   'scenic clutter'

I have  posted  some  pics on www.gscalemad.co.uk

Large / K27 Query
February 22, 2008, 03:50:02 PM
I have  just  bought  a  K27  Fitted  decoder  today    loco0  works  fine,

But  one  query!

When stationery on  track  with  digital (massoth)  power on, irrespective  of  whether  the  loco's ID is  selected  or  not  I hear  a noise from  the  area of  the boiler near  the  gearbox, it  sounds  like a  FAN running,  if  I cut  the  Massoth  power,  the  noise  ceases,  and  restarts  when I switch Massoth power  on  again.

Would  appreciate  any  answers!

many  thanks

Large / HEISLER Decoder fitting query
February 16, 2008, 11:37:54 AM
Hi
I have  recently  fitted  and  ESU Loksound XL  decoder in a Heisler  and  it  operates  succesfully,  However  I was  wondering  what  the  purpose  of  the  2  red  and  2 black  cables are  which  are not  connected to anything but    as  delivered  were  simply  wrapped  in  Sellotape to insulated  the  ends?

I suspect  they  may be connected  with  sound  synchronisation?
