HO / Bachmann Expert Needed
October 15, 2015, 02:05:46 PM
I need to repair a U36B auto-train with the older 8 wheel drive chassis - the heavy one.  I'm finding a lot of U36B and GP40 (same chassis) locomotives on e-bay but rarely does the seller show the engine with the shell off or even the bottom of the locomotive so I'm not able to identify the chassis I need to salvage parts.  Is there a way to identify the type of motor/chassis from the box number, if it's the original box, or engine number on the side of the cab or some other way?

HO / Identifying a GS4
July 22, 2015, 02:49:37 PM
I'm looking at a Bachmann SP Daylight GS4.  How can I tell if it's the original standard version, the PLUS version, the Spectrum version or the DCC version?  The listing just says it's a Bachmann GS4 Daylight and there is no box.

Will a Bachmann U36 shell fit on an Athearn U-Boat chassis?  Anyone tried it?

HO / UP 4-8-4 Overland
September 05, 2013, 06:01:26 PM
The folks at Bachmann just sent me this locomotive to replace a locomotive that could not be repaired or replaced.  While I was disappointed that I could not get a matching replacement, this is a good running, nice looking locomotive.  It came with a Vanderbilt tender that is a little light.  I would like to add some weight to the tender.  Paper work shows how the trucks come off the body but not how the bottom of the tender shell comes off, if at all, to add weight.  Any help.  The tender looks really fragile.

General Discussion / Champ Decals
March 06, 2012, 06:50:10 PM
Does anyone know if a hobby shop or on-line dealer acquired the left over stock when Champ went out of business.  Caboose Hobbies has a lot of Champ decals but not the ones I'm looking for.

Has anyone found a good, permanent, solution to stiff wires that connect the newer steam locomotives to their tenders.  The wires on some of my steam locomotives tend to pull the tender off the track if the wires are not centered perfectly.  They seem to stay in place for awhile then need re-adjustment or pushing back into the tender.  I worry that too much fiddling with these wires may harm the connections.  They do seem very fragile.

How do you send photos?  I read that "attachments" must be enabled but I can't find how to do it.

HO / Spectrum Aux. Water Tender
January 18, 2012, 12:23:04 PM
Just received the black aux. water tender.  I was surprised at the small size.  I was expecting the same size as the original aux. water tender produced to match the "J".  That tender was about the same size as the "J's" coal tender.  The black tender is considerably smaller.  Are both of these tenders accurate as far as scale is concerned.?

Am I the only one having trouble with Walthers new web site.  I can not seem to narrow a search.  I look for "cornerstone structures" and I get wheel sets and a lot of other stuff.  I know Walthers has more stuff than I can find.

HO / Wheel Alignment - NOT Gauge/Gage
March 18, 2009, 02:50:21 PM
Does anyone have a method for aligning freight car wheels.  I had a car that would constantly derail even though all wheels were in gauge/gage.  Turns out they were out of alignment.  I realigned "by eye" and it works OK now but I was wondering if there is a method for alignment as the NMRA gauge/gage provides for gauge/gage?

PS: Never realized I was unsure of the spelling of GAGE/GAUGE as it referres to model trains.  The spell check says it's OK either way.  How do you folks spell it?

HO / GS4 Fredom Train Derailments
March 08, 2009, 03:24:42 PM
When backing the locomotive, even through 26" curves, the tender derails. I know the cause but I can't figure out the cure, other than to stop backing up.  The wires connecting the the tender to the locomotive ar too stiff and are basicly pushing the tender off the rails.  Replacing them with more flexible wires is more than I want to tackle.  Any suggestions?

HELP!!  A few months ago I found an on-line train dealer site that showed their locomotives on all sides by rotating the engine a full 360 degrees when you clicked on it.  Can't remember the name of the dealer and I've given up searching and asking for help.  Somebody out there must know this retail site.

Plasticville U.S.A. / Plasticville Union Station
October 05, 2008, 11:27:54 AM
I recently purchased an HO scale Union Station.  Nice kit with a little paint and a few added details. But, it seems rather small, almost N scale. The main station building is about 20' X 20' and 22' high. I was wondering if anyone knows the size of the foot print of the O scale Union Station.  Maybe it will be a closer match to HO than I tought.

Plasticville U.S.A. / Plasticville Union Station
July 02, 2008, 04:03:43 PM
Have found several Plasticville Union Stations on e-bay.  All were listed in the HO section of Toys & Hobbies.  However, when I looked at the shipping information it stated "O" gauge.  Was this station actually made in HO scale. ???  Actually I was trying to find out the size of the footprint when the seller indicated it was "O" gauge even though it was listed in the HO section.
