Title: Need a straight stack for an HO Bachmann Shay
Post by: alanmende on September 17, 2009, 10:20:44 AM
I just bought a Bachmann Shay as an addition to the Chimney Rock Stone & Gravel Co. roster.  Currently, the company is running a Keystone Locomotive Works 20-ton, Class A Shay, which is proving to be too light for all the loaded hoppers it has to push around.  I'd like to maintain a family resemblance on the engines.

Kindest regards,

Alan Mende

Probably won't be able to get one from Bachmann as they are shipped from China fully assembled. Check the Walthers catalog either on paper or on line. They still carry a large selection of detail parts. You may have to modify it some to fit.
As a last straw, you can make one from styrene. I made one from styrene tubing.  After you have the lenth, cut a thin slice from the next largest size, glue it around the top & fill the bottom seam with contour putty to make a rolled edge on the top. Cut a washer shaped pc from .010 styrene, heat it & roll it to the radius of the boiler, glue to the bottom to make the mounting flange.   Jerry
