Title: Bachmann 2-6-6-2 Speaker
Post by: grsman on December 08, 2012, 02:51:04 PM
I bought a Bachmann 2-6-6-2 and I want to put sound in it.
The space for the speaker is 3" in diameter by 21 mm thick.
I think I can put standoffs under the pc board to get a little more thickness.
Does anyone know where I can get a speaker to fit?
Tom

3" speakers are fairly common, so it shouldn't be too hard to find one to suit your needs. I just bought a pair of 2" Visaton speakers from MCM Electronics for around $8/each that fit nicely in the end of the Bachmann 45-ton hood. I just checked their web site and they have a variety of 3" speakers you can choose from. 21mm isn't very tall, but I've got a few 3" speakers sitting on my shelf leftover from various projects that are around that height. With the right enclosure, they can give surprisingly good sound!

Tom, I've ordered some 3" speakers from Futurlec; here's the link to their page with them:

http://www.futurlec.com/Speakers.shtml (http://www.futurlec.com/Speakers.shtml); the one I used was their "Large Speaker", Part Code "LGSPK".  Hard to go wrong at $1.50 ea.!  ;D

I recently installed one of the QSI Titan sound cards in my Mallet, with a little advice from Kevin, I was able to "tweak" the sounds a bit more to my liking (didn't care for the "default" bell & whistle sounds they had programmed into it.  The video shows before & after reprogramming the bell & whistle sounds.   :)
