From me and my kids a big round of applause to Mr. B, Hunt and the other moderators who make this board so good.  Not to kiss up, just a word of thanks from me and anyone else who wants to chime in.  Happy 4th of July to all.

FYI, today's birthdays, Cal Coolidge, Stephen Foster (from Pittsburgh,  my home town).

General Discussion / TOC
June 29, 2007, 07:03:44 AM
Dear Friends,

Have not heard from TOC latey.  Is he out hunting killer subs, or will you have to shoot me if you tell me?  I need to contact him about an R/C question.

Best Wishes,

General Discussion / To ebtbob

Dear "Bob"

A while back we talked about RR'ing in the Altoona/Pgh area sometime and you sent me an email.  Would you please contact me again so we can share phone numbers and possibly do a day of watching and filming choo choo's?  Now that summer is here, I am too busy with stuff. The Fall looks better, and Friday's are really good. Hope to hear from you again.

Rick Miller, you are invited, too, as well as any other fine person on this forum.  Terrorists need not apply!!

Best Wishes,

Jack

HO / Maintenance

Dear Folks,

This link is from the MR newsletter, 05/10/07 and is a nice compact reference for me to help maintain trackage and running stock. Hope it is useful for you, too.

HO / Where's Gus?
April 30, 2007, 11:05:09 PM
Dear Friends,

Please forgive my ignorance.  Has anyone heard from Gus del Castillo recently?  I would like to get one of his HO track cleaners.

Best Wishes,

HO / Mechanical Switching
April 27, 2007, 05:51:34 PM
Dear Friends,

My buddy Ted, an electro-mechanical genius told me of HO switching machines he made as a lad to mimic the hand thrown switches he used to see used growing up in Phila.  This was done with a group of levers in the control tower, and the agent would "line the switches" from the tower by muscling he levers.  In the real world there were cables that were fed through underground conduit, several hundred feet in some cases.

Ted constructed a similar setup using switch machines and thread or cord from the control panel to the indiviual switches, and said he had a lot of fun doing it.

I could imagine this done similarly with small cable, or a bell crank with push rods, like is done in some large model airplanes.

Has anyone done this?  Doesn't sound too practical, but Ted had to make all his stuff since he didn't have the $ to buy it. Therefore, he made do.

Comments anyone?

Dear Friends,

My computer is hooked up to DSL @ 100Mbps and is pretty doggone fast. However, the downloading time between and in the forums is slower than a turtle on this site.

Is this an issue with other users, or is it just me?  If it is due to security tools that the Administrator has used, that is fine with me.

Thoughts, anyone?

General Discussion / Air Brush Choices/Guidelines
March 21, 2007, 04:47:59 PM
Dear Friends,

On the old board, there was a discussion re: how to choose an air brush.  I am now getting ready to buy one, but do not have the old thread saved.

Q. My choices are Aztek, Pasche or Badger, vacuum fed, double stage. Any info how to choose without actually getting my hands on them?  The air brush will be used primarily for minor paint jobs and weathering. Does water based vs. oil based paint matter much?

Thank you in advance!

HO / EZ Command/Dynamis
March 17, 2007, 09:41:08 PM
Having read the thread on EZ Commander and responses by Hunt and Jim Banner, is there any confirmed information about Dynamis? Will EZ Command compete with Digitrax, CVP, etc to be a good basic system? All I need to do is run one and possibly three trains, and feel Dynamis might just be my ticket.

In the future, I might install stationary decoders to power my turnouts. Would Dynamis work for this, Mr. B?

HO / EZ Track Planning
March 16, 2007, 07:21:55 AM
Howdy. Sorry to post something that may have been covered, but until I upgrade to high speed internet, my browser is "slow as 'lassus in the wintertime!" (Any of you Clint Eastwood fans will recognize that from the Outlaw Josie Wales).

Am in the process of planning a long dogbone with possible center section to make a modified "E" shape into an area approx 15' x 10'.  Any suggestions how to figure how much and what track I will need?  I was thinking of using one of several published plans using other track, but modifying it to EZ Track. Perhaps the new track book will have what I need. If there is any EZ track planning software, I would appreciate the link.

Thanks, and as always, all the best to you!

Jack
