Large / hand car
September 26, 2019, 09:12:34 PM
Hi all Dr Who12

Our railroad club was given a Santa/Christmas hand car and trailer. It has no motor and parts are sold out. I was wondering If the motor from an on 30 street car might work? It is available and appears to be similar to the hand car motor with worm gears at each end of the motor shaft. Or if anyone has a motor that fits for sell please let me know.
Any help/ advice would be appreciated.

Thanks Dr Who12

Dr Who 12 here

I hope with the new 4-6-0 locos Bachmann will send new as well as older loco replacement parts as the stock of existing replacement parts are being depleted.

Thanks

Large / 2-6-0 water pumps
February 03, 2019, 01:04:57 PM
 I just remembered.

I had asked anyone on the forum where I could get some crosshead water pumps that I could install on my 2-6-0 Russian Iron Spectrum loco. I tried to get a pair from the parts Dept. but they aren't available. I also considered buying a new 2-6-0 D&RGW loco with the 2 water pumps on it but I couldn't justify the expense. One of the forum members suggested I contact Track Side Details as the have the pump castings in their catalog. I ordered a set this week so when they arrive and I do the install I'll try to take some pictures and post them along with a description of the work. If anyone has done this modification any help would be appreciated.

Large / 4-6-0 Anniversary
February 03, 2019, 12:50:43 PM
Hi all again.

Well I have been adding to my 4-6-0 Anniversary loco collection buy buying parts and 2 new locos on very good deals, the last I spent $53.00 for loco and tender.
The loco is to arrive tomorrow so I'll see what kind of bargain I have. On all of the locos I have been changing the sound drum by adding 2 more contact blades  so that the loco has 4 chuffs per driver revolution. In the past I had difficulty removing the plastic wheel cover so the mounting axel screws are accessible. I used to drop the wheel end in boiling water and then pry the plastic cover off, this kind of worked but I still broke some spokes but now I heat the wheel up with a hair dryer and punch the cover out from the back side of the wheel so far I have done 3 locos this way without damaging the wheel cover. I was even able to leave the wheels on the loco and remove the covers. On the last loco I removed all of the wheel covers while still on the loco so I could paint the metal wheels. I hope this tip helps others doing this kind of work on their locos. Caution when doing this as the wheel covers can get too hot and warp them.

Large / New 4-4-0
March 26, 2018, 08:19:54 PM
One of our RR club members passed away recently and his wife decided to sell his RR collection. I bought 2 G gauge  tank cars in the box and never opened also a G gauge Spectrum 4-4-0 loco still in it's original red box with all packing foam and plastic bags. The loco is a #81395 and I wasn't going to buy it because I have a beautiful Spectrum 2-6-0 Mogul. I was also leery about getting the 4-4-0 because of the drive gear/axel problem reported but to my surprise the loco has all metal gearing. The loco is a Baltimore & Lehigh #6 road name and is just as beautiful as my 2-6-0. This loco came with no literature ;some how this info was missing.

I have been trying to find a set of loco diagrams for the 4-4-0 but have struck out and Bachmann has discontinued this loco so no help there. If someone on the forum has a set of these diagrams could you please post them on the forum so I might be able to print them? My new loco runs fine and everything works but the box doesn't state that the loco is DCC ready so I would like to know what is inside so if I go DCC I would like to know what I need with out tearing into the loco.

Also if someone might know when this loco was built I would appreciate it.

Well that's all for now.

Large / couplers
January 20, 2018, 08:26:31 PM
Hi all
Has anyone tried installing Bachmann knuckle couplers on the body of their freight cars? I have been installing another brand's couplers on my RR cars and locos but I decided to try using the Bachmann couplers ( to save some bucks) that came with my cars and locos in a body mount vs. the usual truck mount installation.
Due to the winter weather out side I can't test the results so I was wondering if anyone has tried this?
The other brand coupler works very well so I have hope that the Bachmann couplers will preform as well.

Thanks in advance for a reply/ advice.

Large / light bulb
January 16, 2018, 10:20:00 AM
Hi All

It has been a while since I have posted. I recently checked out my locos and noticed my Bachmann E.b.T. 4-6-0 Anniversary tender light wasn't working I bought this loco a year ago and have run the loco a few times on my layout total time about 1 hr.
I disassembled the light and found the bulb burnt out ( it was an led bulb) also there wasn't a resistor in line on either wire. The loco is a 9000 series so I figured Bachmann deleted the resistor. Am I correct in this and would the replacement bulb listed in the parts be the same or is there another light bulb source? Any help would be appreciated thanks in advance.

Large / 4-6-0 start
January 22, 2017, 10:32:18 PM
Hi All.

I'm new to the Bachmann line of trains and it all started with a $30.00 pond shop train set. One of our club members told me about it and he bought it for me. The owner wanted $50,00 for it in broken condition but settled on $30.00.

The club member also had another 4-6-0 that would not work he let me work on it and I was able to repair it to working order. Someone must have dropped it because the weight on the chassis was broken off among other parts.  This  started my Bachmann train collection.

I have now the original pond shop train a standard 4-6-0 that I rebuilt with a new gen. 5 chassis I built up from ordered parts, a WT&NC anniversary and a E.B.T. gen.6  anniversary. I still have the original pond shop chassis in parts as well. I have modified all these locos to make 4 chuffs per rev. and  additional capacitors soldered to the pcb boards in the tenders for a better sound. I tested these trains yesterday out side as the weather was in the High 60s and all ran quite well.  The newest set is the WT&NC I assembled from ordered parts and it made the best sound of the 3 locos.

I also bought a 2-6-0 ( couldn't pass it up as it was the last the dealer had and I got it for 1/3 the cost of a new one). It came dcc ready and along with the other locos I would like to ad a sound decoder and other electronics to run my trains on RC and battery power  some time in the future.

I have had great :- results working with the Bachmann parts dept. and their friendly staff.

That's it for now.
