Title: any chance of DCC equipped steamers?
Post by: Will_Annand on May 17, 2008, 07:23:07 AM
Not everyone loves deisels...

I would like to be able to purchase some small DCC equipped steamers.

What are the chances of new Spectrum 4-4-0, 2-6-0, 4-6-0 and 2-8-0 with factory installed DCC.

Let's face it DCC is the way to go. With base units under $200.00 and decoders around $20.00 more people are going DCC.

Only problem is that my soldering skills are lacking, sure I can solder feeder wire to rail and buss wires, but I am not good enough to solder the wires into a small N steamer.

What say Bach-Mann, how about new small Steamers with factory DCC?

Athearn equipped their Big Boy & Challenger with decoders. They may follow with a FEF Northern that is DCC equipped? I'd like to see if they could update the MDC old timers with a smaller motor that would accept a decoder??

Bachmann's Heavy Mountain is a DCC equipped winner. The N&W J could have been. I'd like to see Bachmann upgrade their existing steamer liine with DCC. At he same time, they may be able to upgrade the tender pickups to make all wheels live. That would eliminate any stalling or drag problems. With this experience, perhaps Bachmann could upgrade their Standard line to Spectrum with DCC.
