HO / Spectrum Acela Express
October 23, 2018, 09:14:13 PM
I have been considering purchasing the Spectrum Acela Express, but I have a few questions.
1. Is the set DCC only, or can it operate on DC also?
2. Will it work on 18' radius track?
3. If it can operate on DC, where can I find the train by itself excluding the track etc?
4. Is it any faster than other locomotives?
5. How can I replace the couplers for normal knuckle couplers, and what couplers should I use?

I don't think the traction tires go over the flanges. 😮😂😂😂
That's why I said "excluding the flanges."

Well, excluding the flanges, it was 9/16

Just measured it, seems to be roughly 9/16 of an inch. You should try looking it up or looking in the parts section; the diameter may be shown if they sell the wheels.

Thanks, I'll go ahead and get it then. Are their turnouts compatible with the 18' radius curves?

HO / Ho Scale EZ Track Compatibility

Hi, I'm considering buying some Atlas Code 100 track to use with my EZ Track. Are the two compatible? Will I need to use a different power pack/speed controller?

You said it happened over a switch? I assume it still wouldn't budge when it was off the switch?

HO / Re: 0-6-0 smoke ??
October 11, 2018, 06:49:02 PM
I saw a post a while ago where someone reported their 2-6-2 smokestack melting after 10 to 20 minutes of constant run time. Naturally, I checked mine, and it got quite hot, so I set out to remove the generator.

Thanks, finally managed to remove that pesky smoke unit. I was worried it might melt the front of my loco...

Rich, the first diagram you posted is the one I have, and I still have the paper copy that came with the loco as well. I have tried removing the shell multiple times, but I always get stuck once I get the bottom. I haven't ever really been able to understand those diagrams. How exactly (in simplified form) do I remove the shell?

My 2-6-2 has smoke equipped, and I can't exactly turn it off when the power is on (to my knowledge). It often gets quite hot when I run it for more than 5 to 6 minutes. Is this something I should keep an eye on, and how can I remove the smoke generator or shut it off?

Hmm... I tried removing them, the trailing bogie came off fine, however, the leading bogie is kind of stuck; the plastic is bent down, most likely due to the screw being too tight. I'll try to remove it and let you know how it goes.

Just got the bogies off, worked perfectly! Just had to cut off a bit of the overlapping plastic. Thanks for all the help!

Thanks for all the help guys, just one more thing. My 2-6-2 won't really go over the EZ Track switches that go with the 18' radius curves. The leading boogie usually gets stuck on the wrong rail and derails the locomotive after a few laps. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, is there a way to fix it?

Thanks. Do I need an accessory terminal or something? My power pack only comes with one output plug.
