Title: Couplers on Bachmann Golden spike set.
Post by: Jimthomason on January 19, 2015, 09:44:07 AM
I am having trouble with the hitches on my Bachmann Golden Spike Train set.
The set came with a magnet and man, but I can not get them to work as I don't find any metal on the cars or hitches.
Also the cars will not stay connected to  the engine on the up grade.
Can some one tell me what I am doing Wrong?
Thanks JIM

HI Jimthomason,

The magnet is for uncoupling, placement is under the track along your siding.
The couplers should have a magnetic trip pin hanging down from them.
The brakeman is placed along the track so you know where the magnet is.

As to the cars uncoupling at the grade, you may need to add a vertical easement at the points where the grade begins and ends. This is easily fixed by shimming the track.
Sounds to me like the couplers may be riding over each other (separating) at the tangent points.

Look here for a diagram of a vertical easement;

Good luck

A limited number of these sets were shipped with "dummy" couplers instead of operating couplers. Contact our service department and they will be happy to ship you a set of operating couplers to replace them with. Sorry for the inconvenience!
