On30 / Re: Adding decoder to existing ON30 steam engines
February 14, 2007, 08:01:32 PM
Neither the Mogul (2-6-0) nor the Porter are DCC ready and must be fitted with decoders by you or someone specializing in DCC installations. I will be doing my Mogul  ;D, my Porter is coming back from one company that was unable to do installation  :(. The Porters are very difficult to disassemble and do an installation in...Good Luck !

On30 / DCC Porters and Moguls
February 13, 2007, 06:47:12 PM
Seems to me a lot of us are disapponted the Porters and Moguls are still non DCC equipped. I have read numerous articles on installing DCC in the Mogul (Harold Minkowitz's is the one I'm going to use to install mine). ;D
The Porter I have sent to the shops to have DCC installed...Haven't heard anything yet... ::)

Any hope of Bachmann making our wishes come true for factory DCC models??? ??? ???

Any others in my frame of thought on this?? ???

Plasticville U.S.A. / Re: Sharpest?
February 11, 2007, 07:45:26 PM
I've used, and continue to use many of the Plasticville buildings, but I always paint and add additional detail. They are very nice kits. Walther's Cornerstone are also very nice, but many of their kits seem to be discontinued rather quickly should they not have stong enough sales. Agin  paint and detail...There are also a ton of fairly easy to build 'craftsmen' kits out there too...Check out www.valleymodeltrains.com...

Happy Building,

In my experience over the past 25 yers or so, it is very difficult for manufacturers to stock a complete inventory of parts for everything made. I have long used parts from companies such as Ozark Miniatures, Precision Scale Co., etc, for replacement and detailing my locos and rolling stock. You can also use damaged equipment, buy old pieces at train meets, or check out that 'bay' place for lists of used/older/damaged items....Happy Hunting...Howard ;D

On30 / Re: The Re-tooled On30 Bachmann Boxcar
February 08, 2007, 08:56:08 PM
I'm liking the retooled boxcars a lot, and continue to be grateful for Bachmann's continued efforts to upgrade their products...Although I have been called a picker of nits by many of my friends, I can live with the two truss rods (for now..I have too much other stuff to do).
But, when the time comes....Precision Scale Co. has queen posts and turnbuckles..add some brass wire and......

General Discussion / Re: Who operates in....DC or DCC ?
February 08, 2007, 09:21:54 AM
My modeling interests have recently changed to On30, and with all of the nice, reasonably priced DCC equipped models out there it was a no brainer to go DCC.  I've yet to be disappointed with my decision...As a matter of fact my BMan porter is scheduled for a trip to the roundhouse for a professional decoder install... ;D

The combination of the electronics in the trolley shed along with specially wired EZ track are what reverses the trolley.... :D
