HO / 0-6-0 Hesitation
December 15, 2015, 11:23:26 AM
Greetings all...

I have a Bachmann 0-6-0 (Smoky Mountain) switcher... in the split frame design.  If the locomotive is idle for more than a day or so... it hesitates when I put it back in operation.  If I run the locomotive at full throttle, back and forth for a bit... the performance will smooth out and the engine will run fine... until it sits for a day or so and the hesitation returns.  The track is clean, the locomotive wheels are clean, I don't understand why it hesitates.

Thanks for the help!

HO / Bachmann Plus 4-8-4
October 18, 2015, 09:18:19 PM
Greetings all...

I have the Bachmann Plus 4-8-4 Class J.  I know the re-tooled Spectrum "J" is superior to the "Plus" version Bachmann sold in the '90s.  Recently my "J" has a flickering headlight on curves, making me wonder if the electrical pick-up isn't as good as it should be.  I've cleaned the wheels, the axles, the split frame that makes contact with the axles and the track and the issue persists. The "J" also requires more current to operate at "running speed" compared to other locos. I also own the "standard" version of the Bachmann 4-8-4 Niagara with the additional hard wired pickups on the trailing truck and that locomotive runs flawlessly.

I greatly appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

Thank you!

N / Thank you!

Thank you for the Bachmann N scale forum.  My first experience with HO trains was over 45 years ago.   N scale was added to my train room not long ago when I won an N scale set at a train show.  The forum is an excellent resource for N scale information.  Thank you again!

HO / IHC Covered Hoppers
August 09, 2013, 08:54:39 AM
I purchased some IHC (Mehano) covered hoppers to make a grain train.  I've noticed this train strains even my best locomotives.  It even feels "heavy" to push/pull by hand.  The are no visible defects to the trucks or wheels.  Why would the "drag" on these cars be greater than on any other 50" foot HO car?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks much!

N / Spectrum 2-8-0 tender coupler conversion
July 03, 2013, 09:48:47 AM
I bought a first run n scale Spectrum 2-8-0 Consolidation... manufactured about 10 years ago.  I tried swapping the rapido coupler on the tender with the Bachmann PN-9722 knuckle coupler that is packed with some Bachmann n scale rolling stock.    Using the engine to pull passenger coaches that have Micro-Trains knuckle couplers... the tender doesn't stay coupled to the train.

I'd prefer not to drill a hole in the tender to install a knuckle coupler.  What is the next best coupler conversion for the Spectrum 2-8-0?

Thanks much!

N / 2-8-0 Spectrum tender

In Bachmann parts... what is the difference between the Spectrum 2-8-0 tender "top" and tender "shell"?  Does the "shell" not include the top?

Thanks for the help!

N / N Scale Knuckle Couplers
June 13, 2013, 01:38:48 PM
Greetings!

I need N scale t-shank knuckle couplers like the Bachmann 9722 (which is sold out on line).   Any recommendations?

Thanks for the help!

Thanks crew!

My train room has a couple of Model Rectifier units that are solid performers.  I saw a the 44212 on line and I was curious about the quality.

Thanks again!

I'm interested in reviews and opinions on the Bachmann 44212 analog power supply.    Will it operate trains at low speed?  Is the transition between speeds smooth?  Does it perform equally well for HO and N gauge applications?

Thanks for the input... I appreciate the wisdom!

Thank you Jonathan!
I have a couple of steam locomotives with tender pick-ups.  I like the Bachmann USRA 0-6-0... bit the constant hesitation is frustrating!

HO / 0-6-0 split frame switcher

I have a Bachmann HO 0-6-0 split frame switcher.   The locomotive consistently hesitates.   I have cleaned the wheels, cleaned the wheel hubs, cleaned the frame and cleaned the track to prevent hesitation.  I've used Conducta-Lube on the hubs to try to improve connectivity.   The plastic gears are all in good shape and working.  There is no visible reason why the locomotive should not operate smoothly.   I have two larger (4-8-4) Bachmann split frame steamers and I have never had a hesitation problem with them.   Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the Message Board... it's always good to have a place to speak "train"!
