HO / New Acela Locomotives
November 18, 2009, 07:03:01 PM
I saw an advertisement in Historic Rail for a new set of Acela locomotives with DCC on board.  Do these control the directional lighting of both units? My issue with the ones I have is the dummy units lights are on all the time, and the DCC just controls the power unit.  Any thoughts around this?

HO / Collectibles today and DCC

Does anybody know if the DCC FT units will accomodate the F7 bodies from the Collectible today trains?  I want to make my RED SOX train DCC as well as power the B unit to see if can actually pull the entire train, and if the bodies fit, this seems to be the easiest way to do it.

Thanx

HO / CLass J Drivers
June 12, 2008, 08:02:20 AM
I have just recently aquired a Norfolk and Western Class J (My third one) and when it runs, the left side pistons on the driver wheel unscrews itself, and one of the bars falls out of position, stopping the train.

Is there an easy fix to prevent this from happening, or do I need to return it for service?

I am a little leary of the service, because last year when I had to return one at Christmastime, it was 14 weeks before I got it back.

Thanx

The 12 deg 33 1/3" radius track works better than the 1/2 22" to make a paralelle section.

I have the Walthers RTR 130' to turn my Big Boy and my whole fleet of 4-8-4 Class J's.  (I think I'm up to like 6 of them) The indesing control is fantastic. You can pretty much program it to stop anywhere. (Just remember to program both ends of the bridge - sometimes one way won't line up quite right from the other) and I have the Walthers roundhouse kit with a total of 9 stalls. The only caution I advise, if you don't have a lot of room, plan the troundhouses carefully. Just my engine yard is almost 4x6, but it catches you attention right away.

I havn't thought that far ahead. I suppose you could try it. I wish we could get some input from a bachmann engineer ot quality control person.

If you add to the set to make the full 6 car consist, it runs better if both locomotives are powered.

One will pull it OK, but has a tendancy to lag on hills.

I have two complete sets, and One extra power unit I picked up on ebay.  I plan on getting another power unit sometime this summer so both have the same performance.

I have about 50 EZ Track turnouts on my layout, and I have had issues with a few that I'm not sure what to do about.

Upon investigation, I discovered that the pivot pins on some of them are loose, causing the points to rock side to side. If a loco (Or even a certain weighted car in the middle of the train) hits it just right, the points rock enough so the next set of wheels gets in between the point and the opposing rail, and forces it open. Almost instantaneous derailment. Always when approaching it from the diverging side. Usually once a train is on the siding it will come off OK, and I have no problems when approaching it from the other end.

I know this doesn't help you out, but know that you are not alone.

HO / Re: Acela sets
April 25, 2008, 11:05:08 AM
Thanx for letting me know. Now I'm on a mission on Ebay!! That set has a coach #'d 3532, and I desperately want to get it, because when I do, I'll have 2 complete 6 unit Acela's, and all the parts will have unique numbers. I'm even willin to trade 2 other Acela cars for it (I have duplicate for now) if you know anyone who might want to.

Thanx

HO / Acela sets

Bachmann;
The Acela set with engine numbers 2036 and 2017  ... is this the latest set out, or is it one of the older sets.

(Just wondering how hard I should chase it on ebay)

Thank You.

Or if anyone has a bussiness class car with road number 3532 they would like to sell or trade, please let me know.

Thanx

I have the Red Sox, Patriots, and NHL Origonal Six trains, and all are on display on the shelf for the exact same reason -- B Units are not powered, and the A Unit cannot pull the whole train. The Patriots train is up to 14 cars now, so I have my doubts that even the two units powered would pull them.  But My AMD-103 from Athearn will pull eight of them by itself.

But they look good on the display shelf. :)

I may try powering the B units at some point. When I talked to collectibles today customer service about it a couple years ago when I first got them, they referred me to Bachmann customer service. Thats where I got "Lubricate the motor, etc."

HO / Acela Bussiness Cars
April 06, 2008, 05:34:02 PM
I may be way out in left field here, but does anybody know how many different road numbers Bachmann made for the Acela Bussiness Class cars? I am trying to make two complete train sets, but can only find 4 of the bussiness class cars with unique numbers, and I need 6. (3 for each train)

Is there any way to order specific numbers (or even different numbers) from Bachmann?

Thanx

If you are using EZ track, Bachmann sells extension wires with plugs on each end for them.
