Title: is there ever a time...
Post by: Summertrainz on April 23, 2008, 11:01:41 PM
when you can just put down your modeler's glue, paint brushes and soldering guns
and say

WELL
:D

im done...

and when your "done" with your layout, you just play with the trains?

(my point is)
i don't think your ever done with layout's keep finding new things to do.
i think if you just said your done, you'd get kind of bored after a few days of driving the trains in a circle...
has anyone ever hit a point when they said there done?

Getting there isn't the point, it's the journey that counts.

BTW you are not finished with your Photobucket links  :D

After 20 year, one of my model railroad buddies finally finished his layout.  Every square inch was done.   Even the room it was in was done, right down to the murals painted on the walls.  Some parts of the layout that he was less than completely happy with had even been redone.

So he did the only thing possible.  He tore it all down and started over.

I'm at that point on my GER where I'm completely bored with it.  I've not done anything to it in almost 12 months, not even been in the railway room.  As far as  I know, it could have been taken over by Aliens.

Not that I believe in all that UFO claptrap but you get my point.

I think the first thing is to do more than just go round and round.

I have found over the years that in order to maintain an interest in a hobby like model railroading is to have at least one particular part of the hobbythat is a continuing interest . Another part and the most important is to be able to share it with someone hence the club

I think that if you have a big enough layout, and you feel that it's pretty much done, you should host guest operators, or just visitors.
