It's still not the 2-6-2 I was hoping for, but it's a pretty cool locomotive.

I found your thread on RMweb (also added you as a friend) I'll be watching if you put up any more pictures.

I am currently debating with myself if I should get one. Since I already have too many engines and the Heisler is quite expensive.

Maybe, depending on how long it lasted in traffic.

The Straight stack is most likely if the engine was built for oil firing, but if it was converted to oil I would say it could still use what ever stack it was built with. As with most On30 items, personal preference is the most important.

Does the oil load look the same as on the shay and climax or something different? Pictures would be helpful.  ;)

I'm surprised it doesn't come with a wood fuel load.

In the 2013 Catalog on page 247 & 248: http://estore.bachmanntrains.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=67&products_id=4671
The current 18ft boxcar is Item No. 26501, on the same page is box car Item No. 26551, without a picture.

I didn't think about a cross between the current coach and observation car. I would think it would be a bit strange to have a coach with windows at one end and not have it as an observation car.

I guess we will have to wait and see unless someone from Bachmann can shed light on the topic.

There are these as well:

Quote18' Freight Cars BOX CAR with MURPHY ROOF OXIDE RED, DATA ONLY

Convertible Coach/Observation Car(with lighted interior)

Observation railing is included with
each car so you can easily convert from
Coach to Observation, if desired.

PAINTED, UNLETTERED
BURGUNDY with GOLD LINING

PAINTED, UNLETTERED
OLIVE with GOLD LINING

The box cars should have a new roof and the coaches sounds like it will be a new body with the normal coach chassis and roof.

or one of the small ex-SAR&H, now Welsh Highlands Beyer Garretts.

I wish I knew where this myth came from.
The NGG 16s are the biggest steam engines on 2ft gauge in the world. They are not small, for a narrow gauge engine anyway. They are 48 ft 3.25 in (14.713 m) long, 7 ft (2.134 m) wide and 10 ft 4 in (3.150 m) tall.

So it may have a slightly smaller loading gauge than a K-37 (by 3ft), but am I right in saying these were rebuilt from standard gauge engines?

The 2-4-4-2 is an On30 item.

Pictures can be seen in the article:

I don't know if it was a mistake or not, but I saw the large scale C-19 at a show in the UK back in may...

Model Railroader have posted their preliminary report.

http://mrr.trains.com/en/News%20and%20Reviews/New%20Products/2012/08/2012%20National%20Train%20Show%20preliminary%20report.aspx

I wont say what products are in the post in case anyone wants to wait for the official report.

I can say the first item disappoints me a little, but I may still get one.

I think the second item will have alot of potential.

HO / Re: How do you simulate a coasting steam engine?
August 03, 2012, 11:32:04 AM
All Soundtraxx sound decoders (even the 'cut down' ones fitted in the Bachmann engines) can be programmed to respond to how the throttle is changed and how much load the loco is under. This means you can shut the throttle off and the engine will still be moving, but coasting, just like a real engine.

Hopefully this manual from Soundtraxx will have all the info you will need to achieve the effect you are looking for. Look at page 50-56.

http://www.soundtraxx.com/manuals/tsunamisteam_users_guide.pdf

I hope this helps.

Just had a look inside mine. As I thought, no speaker.

Did you buy it second hand from someone who put a speaker in?

Really available yet, more than just a few here and
There?

There is one on my layout right now over here in the UK. I have had it for just under three weeks now, so I would guess they are available in most places.

I don't mind too much about the Hieslers being delayed, as I can't afford one right now! Maybe some painted sample pictures to look at while we are waiting would be good.

One more thing, about the SR&RL trains is that they are two foot gauge, not 30 inch. If you were trying to scale that with something eles in the normal scales, such as O gauge, you would need to create a whole new track gauge for them to work on. If they made them to share a common track, that would bring on a whole new scale. If I was going to guess, that is why they haven't made any of the SR&RL two foot gauge trains.

You have the same problem with making a 3ft prototype engine like the ET&WNC 4-6-0. As good as the engine looks, it was far to big to be a useful engine on my layout. I would rather an engine that is too small than too big.

Bachmann hasn't made any SR&RL prototype items, but the pulpwood car, long caboose and forneys are all inspired by rolling stock that ran on the SR&RL. That is why I would like to see a 2-6-2 along the same lines.

I would like to see a SR&RL style 2-6-2 to go with the Forneys. I 2-6-2 tank wouldnt be bad either, as long as it is outside framed.

I think all this 'whats next' talk can make us forget how good the engines we already have are.
