On30 / Re: How to fix a stripped gear?
August 14, 2011, 10:35:38 AM
This doesn't sound like a stripped gear to me. My climax had this problem a while back and I found that the universal joint connecting to the central gearbox (part 25706) had split. This meant that the one of the trucks was only driven by friction on this join. When I glued it back on I found it has worked fine ever since.

I would suggest unscrewing the pan under the driving wheels and take a look.

Hope this helps.

From some of the talk on the On30 Conspiracy yahoo group, it looks very likely.

It's a good time to be modelling in On30!

On30 / Re: Mr. Bach-Man - We're Waiting!

I have to agree, as someone in the UK (not that many hours left in the day now) and is going away for a week tomorrow.

I thought this page might have some On30 news as it did last year, but turns out we have to wait a little longer.

Couldn't you just remove the motor chassis and replace it with a 4 wheeled wagon chassis? Take of the collector, add a coupling. It's more rewarding than just buying one.

No, we wouldn't have the multi tube boiler. George Stephenson also determined the standard gauge of 4 feet 8½ inches.

Cornishman, Richard Trevithick however: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Trevithick

the more you know.

On30 / Re: On30 OF 2-8-0 Cab on the 2-6-0

I have not tried this, but I'm sure ill be tempted to after seeing a picture of yours.

If Bachmann ever updated the 2-6-0 with DCC/Sound, I would suggest making one with a steel cab as well.

They use a new technology that turns the entire cab into a "speaker."  No traditional speaker is used.

I'm guessing the cab is used as a baffle from what you're saying.

'Sounds' very interesting. I intend to get one of these to see how it works!

However, doesn't this mean that if you replace or modify the cab, this will effect the sound quality?

The Ffestiniog Railway has a Alco 2-6-2 that was used in WWI: http://www.frheritage.org.uk/wiki/Mountaineer_II

The Penrhyn Railway (closed in 1962) had 3 Baldwin 2-6-2s, only one survived and is now in France. These were the only Baldwin 2-6-2s that came to the UK as far as I am aware.

On30 / Re: Model Railroader Announces New Products!

What has happened this year might be for the best in the long run. I mean a new Climax in both HO and G suggests Bachmann have overcome their 'fear' of making new geared locos thanks to these new gears they have made. So a Heisler could be nearer than you think.

Alot of people were asking for Porters with DCC last year, and now they have released them with sound (must be some form of magic imo :P ). Yet people are still complaining.

On the other hand, I am disappointed to see no new rolling stock.

I'm sure the Bachmann had as much planned for this year as they always do, but because they are moving, they will just be later than planned.

I wonder if these are the old Porter models updated or completely new models? As getting sound into the old models would be impressive!

I kinda hope these are updates of the old model as this would still give the chance of yet another loco! However this does mean I might as well give Bachmann my wallet!!!

This makes a change, predicting what will arrive rather than what you want to...

Engine: 2-6-2 OF & IF steam engine Maine style
Rolling Stock: Flat Car with Donkey engine load and/or exertion car.

Gosh, is it really that time again? I don't know if they realease locos this early in the year but if they do I would hope for a 2-6-2, since theres no point wishing for something which I'm sure we all know about.  ;)

Rolling stock wise, an excursion car or a flat car with a donkey engine on it like the HO and G one would be nice. :)

Anyway, please do take plenty of pictures as some of us aren't even in the right country!  :P

This also happened with the Bachmann Prototype Deltic model, but I don't see you complaining about that.

I have seen some one in Japan who has one, so their is no reason why you couldn't order one from the NRM.

If you want to blame some one, blame the NRM, even though it was them that made the limited run possible in the first place...

Also, if the City Of Truro model was sold in the states, it would be around $200. Still want it!?

If you want to make one, get a Dapol kit and a Brachlines Chassis.

There is no reason for you to be complaining.
