I would have thought another 2-8-0 would be unlikely, but then they released the OF 4-4-0 so I guess its feasible.

However I would rather see a OF 2-6-2, tank or tender (since people could always convert it if they wanted). We have already guessed theres no point in asking for a H... :P

The more I think about it. The more I think a OF 2-6-2 would be a great addition to the On30 range. :)

They could make an IF and a OF like they did with the forneys. Then I would *have* to buy two.  ;D

I'm hoping for a tank engine that's larger than the Porters, a modest 2-6-2, or something about the size of Argentina's Patagonian 2-8-2s, but I can wait.

As far as im concerned, problem solved! http://www.backwoodsminiatures.com/0n3kits.htm#Bachmann_2-8-2_tank

On30 / Re: Modern Narrow Gauge
April 15, 2010, 08:34:14 AM
I'm thinking of making a WP&Y Class 101 just because I like them so much. So I wouldn't turn down a Bachmann RTR model or similar.

Making a modern narrow gauge engine would be a risky thing as I'm guessing alot of people wouldn't buy one as it would be out of the time period of their layout.

What I would like to see from Bachmann is a On30 version of the HO 45t diesel. It would be nice and big with flailing side rods. :D

From the looks of things, the SR&RL one is in Oxide Brown.

However, when I got my Caboose, I bought a brand new Oxide Brown one in a sealed box. I opened it up to find what I'm sure is an Oxide Red model. Perhaps the people working for Bachmann can't tell either.  :D

Commence Heisler froth fest. ;D

Yes I would like one too, even though I have a kit one (thats how much I wanted one!). Make it a West Side one please!

I think by 'plenty', he means more than 10, since I'm the 3rd person from the UK to know of these lines on this forum alone!

I like the new caboose, as it adds some variety to the end of the train instead of having each train with a center cupola caboose. It looks great with my Forneys and Pulpwood car too.  :)

On30 / Re: On30 2-8-2

19 would make a great On30 2-8-2, as it could include the parts to make it in its WP&Y condition, which would please the logging modellers: http://narrowmind.railfan.net/WPYR/late-steam/80-81/SV19b.jpg

IMHO, a 2-8-2 is likely to be to big for my and many other On30 layouts, although I liked the look of the recent 4-6-0; I just couldn't get one because it would rarely run and sit in a siding most of the time because it is just so big! So I would much rather have a tank engine or 2-6-2 than a massive 2-8-2.

However, if Bachmann makes 19 with an option of making it like the picture above, I may thing twice.  ;)

Oh, its not my layout, just wondered if you have seen it because it has been to alot of exhibitions in the UK over the years.

I know what you mean by the prices, On30 trains import their stock from the US and pass on the savings, so it saves me from having to order from the states myself.

and the much larger other one with big grades and trestles - that there just SHOULD be a site accessible to everyone

Are you talking about Camp 93? (http://www.rdmrc.nildram.co.uk/Camp93.htm before it was extended)

I have operated on that layout a few times as I'm a member of the R&DMRC, but have also been modelling in On30 for about 4 years now.

If you want to know places to buy On30, I recommend EDM models (http://www.ngtrains.com/) and On30Trains (http://www.on30trains.co.uk/Default.asp).

I have started work on a website for my layout, but I can understand why others would not have the time to keep one running.

On30 / Re: 2-6-6-2 Sound phasing

I wish I could remember the exact CV for it. But I found it in the second half of the CD PDF.

I played around with the function, and in the end I changed it back to how it was. This is because each time you start the loco, both sets of cylinders sound at the same time. I did not like this as that's how it would sound most of the time on my small layout.

Thanks for the comments guys. It really helped me see the problem differently.

It turned out that the valve rod on the left side on the rear power bogie had shot up by a few mm. No idea how it did it but it just needed some careful guiding to get it back in its place.

I feel stupid for not seeing the before, I guess that it was on the side of the loco that faces the wall on my layout.

I hope it doesn't happen again.

Right, back to programing!

Cheers,

Max

On30 / 2-6-6-2 Problem
December 15, 2009, 04:22:07 PM
Hello all,

When I came home from school today (or collage as you may call it) I found my Bachmann On30 2-6-6-2 with sound today as expected. Christmas had come early!

I took it out of the box, connected the tender to the loco, and started running it on my layout. It was exactly what I expected of a Bachmann On30 product.

I started changing the CVs to make it run how I wanted. I was very pleased with it.
Then I disconnected the tender, and looked at some of the tender load and stack options, seeing which ones I wanted for my loco.

Once again I connected the tender, put it on my track, to find it moved slightly and then gave up.  :(

I have checked the loco-tender plugs and sockets; Factory reset the sound decoder, and even hooked it up to my 2-8-0 to find there is definitely nothing wrong with the decoder.

When under power, the Mallets motor makes a quiet noise like its trying to move, and nothing more. The front headlight works on the loco. Everything is in working order except the motion.

I know its asking alot, but can anyone help me?  :-\

Max :(

On30 / Re: New SR&RL caboose
November 22, 2009, 08:28:28 AM
I bought one of these yesterday, I am very pleased with it. It's nicely detailed, great lighting, and has a low riding height.

However, I am very confused to find that although I had ordered 26797 in oxide brown, as it said on the box; to find inside the sealed box a model that looks exactly like 26798 in oxide red.

As it was a sealed box when I bought it, I couldn't help wonder if there had been a mix up at the factory? ???

Has this happened to anyone else?

On30 / Re: Suggestions for new products

Despite the amount of kits available, I think some logging disconnects would be a big hit with the amount of logging layouts there are out there. I would buy some even though they are not that correct for my line in the east, but it adds some variety. Depending on costs, they could come in packs of 2, 4 or 6.

It would be nice to see them with loads as well. My local clubs On30 layout has a pair with a load between them that has poles coming out the bottom at each end, these slot into the disconnects through small holes in the middle. This makes a reliable pivot so the disconnects can swing like they did in real life.

I think another item of rolling stock that would be a no brain-er would be the flat car with a log skidder and crates. If the HO and Large scale guys get one, why cant we? Because you make this model in these two scales I really hope an On30 one is in development already.

Loco wise, I can say HEISLER all I want and know you've heard me before. I really do hope Bachmann get round to making a west side one or similar for us all and hasn't been scared out of geared locos forever with the problems of the Shay and Climax.

Rod engine wise, I would really like to see a tank or saddle tank engine, as its something Bachmann has never made before besides the porters (which I dont count as they arn't even DCC ready!), so there are lots to choose from.

Personally I think something like this would be great for logging and mining layouts everywhere:

I hope you read my thoughts and think they are worth making. :)

Gosh, I was looking out for some 2-6-0 pilots. I didn't know they had sold out already!

Yeah, think another run is a good idea.  ;)
