Title: EMD E3 & E4 Diesel-Electric Streamliners
Post by: Quentin on February 08, 2023, 09:19:42 AM
Sooooo..... random question for the ENTIRE board.

Who would like to see...

I've noticed that only one company (Broadway Limited, so $$$$) makes E1A, E1B, and E3 units. No one makes the E4.

For reference, here is a SAL Orange Blossom Special E4 A unit.

Here is a SF Warbonnet E3 A-B setup for a passenger train.

Here is a KCS E3 A unit, illustrated. (No color pictures of a real KCS E3, only Black/White pics)

Here is a B&O E1A

Here is a MoPac E3

Here is an ATL E3

The only exterior differences between the E3 and E4 are the headlights, and the E4 has a door on the nose.

I hope y'all consider this. If I get enough "Yes"s, I'll contact Bachmann with a product suggestion.
Hopefully, if they do decide on it, Bachmann would post them at prices similar to their other HO diesels.

I saw those KCS shovel noses on a trip to New Orleans as a kid.

They're Beautiful!! It's too bad the only models of this type of EMD you can get is from Broadway imports, and those are pricey. and I don't have that much money to drop on a model train. I love this hobby, but not that much lol.

Pretty. But there's just something about the ALCO DL-109's that keeps dragging my eyes away from those EMD hussies.

Ah, the Dl-109 had some huge headlights ('specially on the Santa Fe versions)

Maybe the reason is the way the nose tapers to a pointed nose, vertically.

You can kinda see it in this picture:

I like those EMDs because of how streamlined they were. Handsome engines all.

I'd still like to see Bachmann put out models of the E1-4 units though...
