Title: Dcc Decoder for the acela train set
Post by: flashcom on February 26, 2007, 02:12:08 PM
I am getting the HO acela train set.  It is Dcc ready.  My local train club has a Dcc layout.  I want to run this on it.  Is it possible to install Dcc and sound in this unit and if so, what kind of decoder is right?

I'm not sure about sound, electric engines don't really have a whole lot of sound to them.

I installed a TCS DP5X decoder in mine.  Works great!!  Just plugs right in!

DCC, Yes. Sound, I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure that the dcc socket is on the top of the engine, where there would be no room for a speaker. But I would recommend a bachmann or digitrax decoder if there is no room. But if there is room than maybe you could use an MRC mini diesel decoder. (Yes i know the acela is an electric engine but that's about at close as you can get)
