N / Re: New N scale coupler pics

This coupler looks more like the MicroTrains version. Oddly, some Amfleet cars I recently ordered came with a "large" knuckle-type coupler, without the magnetic pins. This must be some interim thing they're doing.

I recently ordered 4 of the n scale Amfleet coaches, One came with Rapido couplers, and three with the new knuckle types. I queried Brooklyn Locomotive Works, where I ordered them, and they were as suprised as I was. They checked their stock of the cars, and everything else they had came with Rapido's. I then called Bachmann and the folks in Philly were eqyally perplexed. How's that for good communication from the other side of the pond!

That said, the new couplers are huge... almost 15% larger than MicroTrains'. The good news is they do connect, so I'm thankful for that.

I managed to fix the problem, though it involved removing the lighting contact strips from each truck, which were binding the wheels. I also took a small round file and slightly enlarged the slots holding the wheels. A touch of lubricant, and lo and behold...free wheeling.

I recently received 4 of these cars, three with knuckle couplers, and one with Rapido's, which though larger, will work with MicroTrains couplers. The problem I have with all the cars is the wheels are extremely tight, and do not roll freely on my track. In fact, at a train show this past weekend, my loco could barely pull them. Has anyone had a similar experience, and/or come up with a fix for this problem  (short of replacing the trucks with MicroTrains units, which are not prototype for these cars).
