I all i am raising money for Bachmann large scale thomas & annie & clarabel.
I also want to get the snowplough :)
But does the snowplough can go in the snow ???
& also thomas ?? I wonder cause next year i really want to get him in the snow :D
Also do the track that comes with the set can go outside ?
If not does you know good track that goes outside :S
Thanks tomtomica2
I DO NOT recommend running and Bachmann LS locomotives in the snow as they are not weather proof. At Longwood Gardens, where Thomas ran in the snow for the first time this year, what they did was put the old Lionel Thomas on the track instead if risk the detailed B'mann engine. The B'mann engines are great in a nice temperature, OK in the cold, OK if you run it in a light rain, but I would not use a B'mann engine for snow duty. And B'mann's track CANNOT run outside. The B'mann track is only made for indoors. If you want to build an outdoor layout, you will need more money. You will have to buy LGB or AristoCraft brass track. And if you already have this outdoors, run an LGB or AristoCraft engine first to remove the actual snow so the B'mann engine is not damaged. You could clean the track of with a broom, which saves a lot of cash. If you really want to run Thomas outside, its up to you, but B'mann engines are not the best in fresh snow, after a day or two they run perfectly, but I would not run a B'mann engine in freshsnow, because they are not waterproof.
Hope it helps,

Yeah, would not reccomend to run him in the snow. It is a large investment and if it doesnt work...
Thank you guys :)
Well niw i know that I w'ont run it outside :)

I must say he looks incredible !!!
Hes next on my list :)
Also guys i am gonna remove the couplers .
& i am gonna put chains instead !!!!
What do you think :)
please don't triple post. G scale trains ARE weather proof, because they're made to go outside. it would be fine to run them in the snow, as long as you clean the track off first. James would be a nice engine to run in the snow because "....red looks so nice against the snow" ;)
@Anthony P2 not just the G scale engines are waterproof, the ho ones are too! trust me on this I've done it alot
@tomtomica2 that's what i did on mine!! it sure beats the hook and loop couplers because they look so... idk a word for this :P but the chains make them look REALLY nice
will ho scale engines be fine with ez/fake snow?

Yes they will just dont put alot of snow on the track then run Thomas or any engine in that matter through it trust me not a good idea. Plus its hard (well for me a least) to get the snow out of the tracks.

no the B'mann engines are not made to be run in heavy rain and heavy snow. Light rain and light snow sure, but not heavy. The B'mann engines do not have the weatherproof, or should I say waterproof, plastic/parts that LGB and AaristoCraft have. If you do wish to run them in heavy snow, don't have them run too long. Just because an engine can run outside does not mean it won't be damaged by rain or snow, or extreme heat. Go to any hobby shop that sells B'mann LS trains and ask them if B'mann LS engines are made to run in heavy rain or heavy snow. I can assure you they will most likely say no.
Hope it helps,

G scale trains are made to withstand the elements easier.
The video comments seem to be in favor of running the trains in just about any weather.
I think Bachmann G scale track specifically isn't good to use outside though, could be wrong, but I recall being recommended a different track brand at a hobby store in Houston..!

If they sold that particular brand, and it's more expensive than Bachmann track, then it could be that they're being dodgy. I would only take advice from someone who isn't wanting me to spend money :P

In the world of model trains, the better quality material is usually more expensive!

Yes you do have to say more. The engine in the first is an ARISTOCRAFT engine, which I've stated before is waterproof. Bachmann does not make any G scale diesels. The Aristo engines are perfect for the rain. The engine w/ the plow in the second video is also an Aristo. The engines in the 3rd video are Aristo and LGB, both waterproof. And in the 4th video the engine is an Aristo. They are all diesels, Bachmann makes not a one diesel like that. None of the engines in the video are Bachmann, they are LGB and Aristo. So the videos don't change the fact that BACHMANN engines are not to be run in the snow. The other brands are, not Bachmann. G scale engines are made to go in the snow, but not Bachmann engines.
-BRR
And the creator of this thread was talking about a Bachmann engine, not an LGB or Aristo. A Bachmann which is NOT waterproof. Get a Big Hauler and dumb a glass of water on it and tell me if it works. Then get an Aristo/LGB engine and dumb a glass of water on it and it will still run, because it is made to run in rain/snow.

First of all it doesn't matter what brand the engine is beacuse g scale trains are made to be run outside. And I tried that little experiment of yours it worked. Then I ran it in the snow....so yeahm I tried it with my set I got last year for my birthday.
I think the best policy is to consider all electrical devices as limited to dry conditions only. I don't suppose the neighborhood would burn down if some water got into a garden railroad loco and shorted it but I know it would be an unfortunate experience for the loco and its owner. I'm not sure why someone would like to be out running trains in the rain in the first place, though I can see that it would be fun in the winter, especially if you had one of those little rotary snowplows! Overall, I'd say don't run trains in the wet, though light snow may not be too harmful, and never leave model railroad equipment exposed to the elements. As for Bachmann track, it'll be fine outdoors as long as you take it up after every operating session or replace it once a month. Sorry, folks, but it's not UV resistant so sunlight will rot it faster than a kid eats ice cream. And that's a fact, not an insistant but erroneous opinion!

Only some of the G scale trains I have looked at are listed as waterproof. My local dealer told me some are waterproof and other are not "waterproof" but are ok in a "light" rain, but not a heavy downpour. If the Bachmann G scales are waterproof and since this is the bachmann forum it seems to me someone from bachmann would have stated that here by now.

I apologize for "digging up" this thread, but a while ago I was talking to a major Garden Railroader an he said "The new Bachmann models are more reliable in the snow then the old." So Thomas should be fine. I've always gone by the rule of not running the older ones in rain/snow since they may die, but the new ones seem to be just fine. Now I am sorry I dug this up, but I just talked to him the other day. And scine a major snow is supposed to hit the east coast tomorrow, which it has already started flurrying tonight(YAY! ;D) you can spend your snow day running your trains.

EDIT: And a user on youtube, gardentrains, did exactly what you wanted to. He put the snowplow on Thomas and had him plow the line. It looked really good.

The only place it snows in Australia is in the mountains... It has only snowed once or twice in actual suburbia... and one was the year I was born, and another about 15 or so years later. Fake snow is good enough lol

True. But I can't make the episodes. :(
i mean just for fun(since i sometimes make accidents happen)
I could remake it with my Big Haulers and a few freight cars, but it isn't worth the damage risks.
Well its not your fault. "Accidents happen now and again just when you least expect".
hehehehehehehe. well your right, "Accidents happen now and again just when you least expect".
You should have seen some of the accidents at Longwood. The Bachmann 2-8-0 lost 2 of its 4 cars and the AristoCraft NS Dash 9(I believe) and its coal train was on the adjecent line. The Dash 9 hit the stray coaches and the 2-8-0 came back and hit that. It caused a lot of damage to the 2-8-0, but it ended up fine ;D
There where many more, Thomas jumped right off the curve and landed on the hill of mulch next to his track. That was an interesting one. Many other crashes were due to couplings failing and then the engine ramming the stray cars.

I dont think a female engine. I think Gordon or Henry is next! Toby and Salty are highly possible. The only girl possible is mavis, I think
I can imagine Rosie in large scale before HO and Diesel for that matter.
I higlhy doubt Gordon and Henry, to big and to expensive. Unless they shrink them a little they will be a lot
Still Toby is coming next in my opinion.
Toby, Edward, or Emily I think.

Edward, proably, but I got money on Henry and Gordon
Toby all the way! ;D
Personally I feel Emily has no shot for the LS range even if she is a girl. Shes just too big as are Gordon and Henry when they make all the small engines and if that range is still popular then they may make them.
Like Toby?
Emily may not have a big chance, but she has a chance. They have to release a girl character soon, personally I want Mavis, or the parent activist groups will flip out again and file more lawsuits.
I think Rosie has a better chance than Emily. Maybe Mavis is tied with Rosie.

They are not gonna fire suits against BACHMANN as long as there are girls in the show those idiots are fine. BACHMANN WILL NOT RELEASE EMILT JUST BECAUSE SHE IS A GIRL.
I agree. Emily's character has just died. :P
Becareful, those groups have sued and have done more damage to more shows than anything else. They can get Bachmann if they want, it is still possible. They may not win, but they can still try.
