Large / Re: valve gear

The engine is no. 14 from the 90059 set. The side bars and valve gear are metal but it doesn't have that vertical connecting arm to make that extra "monkey motion" that some refer to. I think it is a Stephenson. Thanks all for your input. Bill W.

Thanks for the pictures JD, I have an Annie White Pass 4-6-0 and it looks like it has the Stephenson valve gear from the pictures you sent. Bill W.

Large / valve gear

Apparently Bachmann made 2 kinds of valve gears for their Annies and Big haulers, Walschaerts or Stephenson valve gear. Is one slightly more reliable than the other, and how can you tell which one you have on your 4-6-0? Thanks, Bill W.

Hi Bill, thanks for the info, looks like the way to do it. Now I'll just keep my eyes open for a shortie car. Thanks again, Bill W.

Large / front coupler
August 04, 2011, 10:22:55 AM
My Anniversary 4-6-0 White Pass steam engine has a dummie knuckle coupler on the front on the engine. I would like to put a Bachmann working knuckle coupler on the front. But the dummie coupler on the front looks about half the size of a regular knuckle coupler. Before I take the dummie coupler out would like to know if a working Bachmann coupler would fit. Has someone done this with Bachmann couplers. I know Kadee makes a coupler that fits the front with some minor alterations. If Kadee is the only way to go, will Kadee couplers couple with Bachmann couplers? Thanks, Bill.

Large / Re: painting over a stain
July 31, 2011, 02:16:24 PM
It must have eaten into the paint, I tried to get it out but nothing worked. Appears like something spilled or splashed on the boxcar, some kind of petroleum product maybe. About 2" by 1" stain. I had some different greens kicking around and mixed and sprayed that area with a slow fade to the outside. The box car paint has a gloss like finish and the paint I put on had even more glare but the color was a very close match after a few hours of mixing and trial and error. Waited a couple of days then clear dullcoated the entire boxcar and you have to know where to look, even then hardly noticeable there was ever a stain. I'd say about 95% to 98% match. Thanks for all your ideas and suggestions. Bill

Large / painting over a stain
July 24, 2011, 10:56:07 AM
I recently purchased second hand a Bachmann White Pass G scale boxcar, green with yellow lettering. I knew when I bought it there was a large stain on the green part of the boxcar which reflected the price. Is there anyway to match the color from a Bachmann color chart ( if that even exists ) or is it just trying to match the best I can using Floquil paints for example? I don't want to repaint the entire car as a  close paint match would be okay. I'm fairly new at this and would like some ideas and suggestions. Thanks, Bill

Large / G scale wheels
June 06, 2011, 09:18:43 AM
I have a few Bachmann G scale cars ( not the spectrum ) and need replacement wheels for some. Bachmann makes metal wheel sets in "small " or "standard". Which ones would I need for a 4 wheel bobber caboose and a 8 wheel  boxcar? Would like to order the right ones the first time. Thanks.

General Discussion / Re: headlight not working
November 02, 2010, 05:12:08 PM
Jonathan, I did buy the engine slightly used and the previous owner did run DCC. He said he recalls the light working as he returned the engine to factory default values. ( I don't run DCC so understanding his DCC talk is an issue ) He also suggested putting the engine on a programing track and work the lighting CV. What does that mean, do I need a chip, a different control or what to check the lights?

General Discussion / headlight not working
November 02, 2010, 12:28:46 PM
I have a spectrum 4-6-0 steam engine, the 2 wiring harnesses from the tender to engine are connected but the headlight doesn't work. I run DC only. Anyone know what I should be looking for to get the headlight to work? Thanks.
