Title: Use of images taken from the Walthers catolog.
Post by: Robertj668 on September 10, 2009, 03:50:40 PM
Hi everyone

In one of my posts I was asking about the coaling and logging industry and at one point I wanted to use a photo from the Walthers catalog.  Remembering about copyright infringement I proceded to write a letter (email) to Walthers I finally received an answer. I will be following my notes. I thought this may or may not be good information  for people on the Message board.

Here it is
Hi Robert,

I received your email regarding image use from our catalogs.   It is not problem for you to use the images :-)

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best Regards,

Kara Benson

Oh my gosh, a company that uses logic and reason (as opposed to legal procedure). Hats off to Walthers!!

Walthers is in the business of model railroading and anything you do that helps model railroading will have some positive spin off for Walthers, some time, some way.

Having received permission, it is always nice to acknowledge the source, for example

Obviously you don't have to do this.  But doing it does several things:
- it acknowledges and thanks the source
- it reminds others about seeking permission to use images that are not theirs
- it adds a note of professionalism to your posting.

Putting the acknowledgement in small text (I used superscript) keeps it from getting mixed up the the text in your post.

I agree it was nice to hear back from them and get a good response.

Jim
I agree you should always cite the source as a courtesy to the source.
