Thanks, for the responses.

So, just to clarify the 2-10-2 tender is longer than the 2-8-0 one?

I need to make sure if I order a differnt road name, body shell for my pair of Sound GP40s that I specify Sound units?

HO / Swapping Body shells on steam and diesel models
April 13, 2018, 03:29:35 PM
Hi Bach Mann and modelers:

I have a couple of questions.

1. Can the tender shell from a 2-10-2, with backup light be swapped for a tender shell from a 2-8-0? Are they the same length or is the 2-10-2 shell longer?
2. Are the chassis's for a GP38 the same as a GP40 so body shells can be swapped?

Thanks, in advance for any inforamtion.

Thanks,

Barry

Nice railroad, Jonathan and quite an extensive roster of power.

Thanks, for sharing your progress.

Roger, I know that you are a very experienced modeler so I am sure you may have already checked most stuff before posting. Is the engine failing to make electrical contact or is it derailing?

If electrical you might check the tender drawbar to make sure it's not lifting either the tender or engine up causing it to stall. If a physical problem causing a derailment you might check the pony truck and spring for correct tension and the wheels for gauge.

I have a couple of these locomotives along with five 2-8-0s and they all seem to run well although just when don't expect it they need a bit of tweaking to keep them in service.

Let us know what you find out?

Thanks, Bach Man. It's great to have a "listening ear" for suggestions and a way to pass them along.

I agree, Jonathan and for my IC railroad it's close enough to the prototype for me.

To add to a possible re-production would be a tender backup light in the middle and tender footboards to make the model a great local engine. Just some suggestions.

I am a very happy customer with the five I have and the first being one I purchased almost 20 years ago and still running strong and smooth.

Great job Bachmann.

Bachman is there a possibility that the 2-8-0 (IC prototype) will be re-released with DCC/Sound similar to the new ones in N scale?

Thanks,

Thanks, Yardmaster for the reminder.

I knew it was DCC but failed to read further in the description to insure it was Sound Value rather than Ready.
At any rate I have already lined up a friend to do the work to change the locomotive to a sound decoder one.

The following is a compilation of posts from another website and information offered me by a gentlemen named Boyd. This may be helpful for those of us who wish to add a sound decoder to a Bacmann DCC Ready locomotive. I was looking specifically, to do this with an HO 2-6-0 but I think it was also work with other Bachmann locomotives. The best part is that the components are all "plug and play" which should make it easy for those of us not wanting to solder tiny wires.

I agree as the new Soundtraxx eco series decoder with plugs one can also order the extesnion harness with plugs on both ends that plug into the bachmann board and into the eco decoder. The decoder also has a place to plug in the current keeper and speaker too.

"BAB thanks, for the information. Can you provide any additional details, decoder #, harness #, plug in speaker # or installation details?
Thanks to you and Wrong Way Murphy for the help.
Barry, all new to this stuff."

BAB
"I do not have that info but call them direct and they will give you the correct number for the one which as all plugs, three total, on the board think its 200PNP but not sure. Thats the way I found it seems I cleaned off my desk and with it went the numbers I had scratched out. Also you can oreder direct from them when you call. Ask for the 9 to 8 pin harness and the decoder for either steam or diesel of corse and you have enough room in the tender for there new plug in current keper too so get that also. When you get the new board cut the plastic heat shrink off from around the connector carefully so you can remove them and put on the new ones. Also make sure you use some electrical tape to cover any exposed board areas. Good luck, but like I said they are nice to work with so give them a call. Boyd in Chiloquin"

BAB
"Ok went on there web site, Currentkeeper, 810140,harness 810135, this is the one I think you want but call them to make sure eco 200 but tell them you want the one with all plug in harnesses on both ends. Boyd"

Thanks, Rich for the encouragement and Joe for the good details.

Now to find the right (light steam) decoder with a plug in speaker and I think I can do it.

HO / 2-6-0 Decoder
May 16, 2016, 06:18:19 PM
Recently I purchased a new Bachmann 2-6-0 which I thought was DCC/Sound but have found to my disappointment that it is in fact only DCC ready. The fault is my own not the sellers for not double checking to make sure the engine was DCC/Sound Value.

My question is how do I go about adding DCC/Sound to this engine? I know I can probably put in a DCC plug but how do I add Sound?
Can I simply buy a decoder from Bachmann and make an easy swap? Purchase a decoder/sound equipped tender and swap shells?

Any suggestions/information is very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Barry

I would like to see Sound decoders added to all N scale Bachmann locomotives.

Hi Roger:

I always enjoy your simple modifications and wonder if you posted any additional information/photos of how you did the smokebox, headlight modification and did you move the tender back up light to the middle?

Thanks,

HO / 2-8-0 Sound
May 20, 2015, 11:33:19 AM
Hi Bach Man:

Are there plans to run another batch of 2-8-0 s in the near future and will they be delivered with sound capabilty?

BTW, this is probably the best operating and looking "generic", steam locomotive on the market and for us Illinois Central modelers is close to their prototype.

Thanks,

Barry
