I'll keep it simple, I have a tsu1000 light steam installed, I have a EZcommand to run it Around the tree for the kids. With my dynamis I remapped function f11 "brake" to f9. When using the dynamis I get the disired result, when f9 is pressed the brake squeals and slow the train to a stop per the cv's I set already. Now the issue, on the Ezcommand f9 does not react at all, retesting with the dynamis everything works

Any guesses? Am I missing something? Can the ezcommand work this way? Seems like it should.

Thanks

General Discussion / Thanks Bach-Mann and Mr Lynch
November 06, 2010, 11:46:27 PM
I'd just like to take a moment to thank you Guys for taking time out of your work and home lives to answer questions here, I've seen some post that read a little rude from people here, maybe they don't realize that the board is not your only job at Bachmann and some of their question may take research before you can answer them.

You guys do a great a job

thanks

I'm sure some of you have seen these and played with them, recordable greeting cards... I had one given to me and quickly tore it apart to see how it was put together, I found by soldering a couple wires onto the board I could jump the record feature and re- record my voice or what ever I wanted to it, I then soldered a reed switch to the trigger and presto... A cheap sound effect when my loco passes over it. the sound isn't the best but acceptable for 3 to 6 dollars, I'm not sure how long the battery will last but when it dies I will hard wire it in with some resistors. If anyone decides to play with these I recommend you make a little box for the speaker for best results

I had a nice surprise when making a pickup in Carson California. Sitting on a spur at a pallet supplier were two Santa Fe Caboose that looked like they had been freshly repainted. It was nice to see them, it's Been years since I have seen a Santa Fe caboose. I'm going to try to get some good pictures of them.  All I had was my Iphone.

General Discussion / Free white styrofoam
July 07, 2010, 10:07:46 PM
I use the white styrofoam for building up mountains on portable layouts, the good insulation pink or blue is hard to find in southern California, I found a great source for the white stuff today when I picked up my kids new bunk beds, the "furniture store" some of you may already have thought of it but i had not until I saw the huge piles around the dumpsters all sizes and a lot of solid squares and rectangles, and some sheets of various sizes and thickness. Next time you need some give it a look

Hey Bachmann, how about some sets like the large scale. You have all the parts all ready,  just toss in the Ez command and an oval of track, heck you could just use the existing styrofoam from the two sets you have, just use the foam inserts from the single boxes and your good to go just slip a new jacket on and your done.

Now that I've worked out all the details for you, when can I expect them at my LHS.

PS at least I'm not asking for new locomotive. I just want a really good deal.

General Discussion / Setting decals
February 24, 2010, 10:59:58 PM
Hi, I have only been using dry transfers because I like the way they turn out, but I am doing an HO caboose and the letters are just to small.

My question is what is the best setting fluid, liquid, agent? what ever you want to call it.

I cut away as much of the backing as I can but I still end up with some shininess even after applying  dullkote.

Thanks

HO / true to scale?
February 06, 2010, 11:04:35 PM
Hi HO Guys,
I don't usually do ho scale or diesel's, but a friend asked me to do a little circle layout for his office. He only wants a Loco and caboose since it is such a small layout.  So I picked up a Athern  SW1500 UP, my normal shop didn't have any UP Cabooses in stock so I stopped by another shop and found a Atlas trainman UP cupola caboose, when I look at them together the Caboose looks sorta small. does anyone here know how these scale out ?

Thanks

General Discussion / Amazing Percy
February 05, 2010, 02:00:43 AM
As I sat watching TV tonight, I noticed my daughters have left Percy shunting his wagons endlessly around the Island of Sodor... again.
This Island is a simple 24" dia. layout that drifts around our home like the island on the TV show "LOST".  No matter where the Island pops up, Percy is in constant service, sometimes I find him running at lightning speed, other times he is crawling along so slow you would expect him to stall at any moment, but he doesn't. forward or backward he keeps pulling those same four wagons. at any time you can find him hauling Polly pocket and her friends, cars, trucks, jewelery or anything else my daughters can load in order to keep him gainfully employed.

it's common for him to run  for 8hrs+ none stop.  I take him to the service bay once in a while for a lube and cleaning to make sure he is happy, it's the least I can do, This HO Loco has earned his keep and then some.

Thanks Bachmann my kids love this little guy.

NM

P.S. I think I'm gonna pick up another Percy and Kitbash him into and On30 Saddle tank Loco.

General Discussion / Toys and nothing more?
January 17, 2010, 05:27:02 PM
Quote from: El Loco on January 17, 2010, 09:19:54 AMOne magazine publisher& forum owner  emailed me once degrading me & 0n30 claiming it as "Toys and nothing more"  I beg to differ!

EL Loco,
please don't take this in a bad way, my comment is toward the "Publisher" you quoted.
Aren't all scales "TOYS" so to speak? I have encountered others at shows that have the same attitude, is this a self esteem issue with these types? Do they feel silly if they admit they are playing with Toy Models?
I have seen new people to the hobby turned off by these types because they were scolded for calling a Module/Layout a "Train Set" or Said "Nice Toy Train"  I just don't get it, sure there is a difference in quality between my daughters battery powered Thomas and My on30 locos, but we both make them go in circles, and stop for imaginary passenger schedules and loads.  So really aren't these all just toys?

General Discussion / So Cal Foam Board?
January 08, 2010, 12:15:39 AM
The Plywood Post triggered this Topic anybody know where to buy foam board insulation in Southern California, I can't find it any place and want to Try this stuff. 1" or 2" pink or blue, I don't care, I just can't find it here, I saw somebody else in a southern state mentioned it was hard to find in the lower states, they were right.

Thanks

General Discussion / To Everyone... What Fixed it?
December 27, 2009, 02:43:55 PM
Hi Everyone,
I love reading all the post here. I have been tinkering with trains solo for many years (not a club sort of guy, hate the politics) I have learned a lot of simple time saving things here.
One thing I have noticed is the end of the story is seldom told, the problem is posted, advice is given sometimes there are replies back and forthe, but more times then not the cure is not posted. just a little note back about the final fix would be nice and would help a lot of others I think.

Thanks

I had posted this to another thread but I had the link wrong, this should be a handy page for those wanting to experiment with LED's or replace incandescent bulbs With LED's

Just curious, has any body else had this experiance? it seems like everytime a friend of a friend finds a train in a dusty box, they ask me to tell them the value of it, then when I give them the news that their 1999 vintage big hauler isn't going to be the funding for their new car, they get upset at me and act as if I am trying to scam them because I want it or something.

I wonder how this "IDEA" that all old trains are lworth their weight in gold got started?

Large / 1:20.3 Passenger Cars
October 11, 2009, 03:58:45 PM
As Christmas is Coming Closer, I am pulling out the Large scale track and once again my critical eye is wanting Passenger cars to pull behind My 1:20 Loco The big haulers are nice but they just are not right. I know lots of others want these. I know I can buy other manufactures rolling stock or kits but I hate to mix and match...

On30 / Cheap flickering flame lighting Effect L.E.D.'s
October 04, 2009, 04:33:32 AM
Anyone ever tear apart a battery operated "Tea Candle"? I have dozens of these around the house they come three for a dollar on sale around the holidays, when the battery goes dead they are useless because a new battery cost more then another three pack. I carfully take them a part solder on a 750ohm resistor to one leg and run them off of 12 vdc they flicker without a circuit board and you can place them anywhere you can put a typical size L.E.D. I put two in a 55gal drum with a piece of white tissue paper above them and the effect is perfect.

Just My 2 Cents
