On30 / Re: 2018 On30 Annual available for pre-order

Just received mine today.   Another great On30 annual.

I'm not upset or anything, please don't read between the lines here, but fulfillment obviously wasn't a first come, first serve.  I had placed my order, literally, just a few hours after announcement of pre-order.

Really, just a little jealous as reports, both here and on several email list, so many others reported receiving their copy over the week.

To everyone here who contributed/sold an article that is in this years annual, thank you.  So many great articles and projects.

If Terry can locate them with a magnet, or otherwise, that's great.

Fingers crossed for Terry's good luck, but Plan B, little parts like that are always getting lost.  It is always great to have some of those on hand.

Or......Plan C, worse come to worse, knowing what to order before hand helps significantly.

I had the opportunity to purchase a few new tools just a couple of months ago.  Don't remember who, but someone was asking about nut driver sizes for removing and tightening the connecting rod fastener.  Didn't need that tool immediately, but know that I will at some point in the future.  Everyone sees things differently, but I was happy to identify something before I needed it in an emergency situation.

Thanks for sharing.

As much as I enjoyed the trains, I'm also very interested in the remote control, scale speed trucks.

Does anyone know how these are done, or where they come from?

Haven't heard anything, I don't think they're being shipped yet. I can wait, as I have long had a PDF with my own article, but I'd like to see the rest of it soon! last years, I think, didn't get out to people until April, and I wouldn't be on a timeframe earlier than that this year.

I agree.  AFAIK, the 2018 Annual has not shipped yet.  I did, however, whip out my credit card and order mine as soon as they were announced.

Interesting you mentioned PDF copy.  Do you just get a copy of your article, or the whole annual in PDF format?

I still want, and want to pay for my hard copy, but I would pay another $2 or $3 for an additional PDF copy.  It is sometimes very nice to have the PDF/electronic copy on the Mac, or the iPad to read when I am remote.

Thanks for the post, I would also purchase several of these.

I have decided (and invested $$$) into converting from powered tracks/DCC to wireless/Dead Rail+DCC, and additional storage location for a battery/receiver/speaker/etc is appreciated in smaller locomotives and locomotives with already tight wiring.

I noticed a $5.oo increase in regular price from last year's $19.95.
Early bird special at $22 instead of $24.95 until 3/31 I think.

Enjoy
 Barry

FWIW, I just purchased my NG & SL Gazette, March/April 2018 at my local hobby shop.

Page 11, Coronado Scale Models has the "On30 2018 Annual" listed for $19.95.

I have already ordered mine, otherwise, I would persue this.

Thanks for kicking off this post as it is very timely for me.

I just picked up one of these, assuming new-old-stock, i.e. I pulled the wrapping off of the box, and it seems to have similar problems to what you are experiencing.

Minimally, I, would be curious to hear if you are able to resolve your issue, or, OTOH, if you end up having to send it in for service.

On30 / 2018 On30 Annual available for pre-order
February 09, 2018, 04:57:10 PM
We had a big discussion thread on this last year, so I am assuming that it is still OK to share this information this year.

Just received info that the 2018 On30 Annual is available for pre-order at the regular place.

https://shop.whiteriverproductions.com/products/on18

Same as last year, no commitment of actual ship date.

Thanks for looking.

You should be able to find a good quality "Wiha 26592 7 Piece Nut Driver Set" for about $30.00. It includes 1.5, 1.8, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0mm sizes.

Len

Thanks for your note.  Ordered my Wiha nut driver set from KC Tools.

Wiha makes good stuff, and I've always been happy with their tools.

Can you share an image of what broke?

Or, possibly need to locate the Bachmann Heisler exploded view.

I went to NWSL, but nothing jumped out at me as appropriate.

The Wayback Machine says this site has been excluded.
That is really a shame. I was accessing Harold's site up until a couple of say ago.

I agree.

Some times sites will configure their 'robots.txt' file too restrictively, effectively blocking the Wayback Machine also, in addition to search engines.

Fingers crossed that the site owner will fix/restore his site.

I saw a couple of Moguls with peaked roofs on Harold Minky's site. It looks like his site is down now.

Hello Terry,

Can you share the link you have for Harold Minky's site?

Frequently, many sites are archived and available at the Wayback Machine.

Many times the positive will be the blue light wire, but NOT on the Porter.  If you can find the positive and neg points on the bridge rectifiers, those could work.  Marcus Amman's Main North web page also has a lot of info on adding keep Alives to many decoders, plus some theory!  I never felt the need to add keep alive to my Heisler, since it almost never stalls.

Reg Barron

Hello Reg,

Any chance you have a direct URL?

I hit my search engine and came up with this, which seemed to be the obvious home page:

http://mainnorth.blogspot.com/

I went thru all the links/year expansions, but if I had the correct site, I wasn't able to locate the referenced information.

thanks,

Jerry

The Keep Alive I ordered should arrive by the end of the week, I'll let you know how it works.

What keep alive did you purchase?

Somewhat new On30 member here, I would sure appreciate a report back on how your new components did once you have them installed and working for a while.

Thank you,
