Title: Adding DCC and sound to the 0-4-0 Porter
Post by: Sunnyfield on October 16, 2011, 07:35:19 PM
I have  the 0-4-0 Porter w/o DCC and sound. Can anyone advise me what decoder and size/type speaker can be used to upgrade the Porter? Where is the speaker and decoder located on the factory equipped Porter?
I don't have access to the new 0-4-0 factory equipped with DCC and sound.
Perhaps I am better off just forgetting about trying this conversion, bite the bullet and buy one factory equipped?

Dear Sunny,
The new Porter has an exciter mounted inside the cab side. In effect, the cab itself becomes the speaker.
They are not available from us as yet.
Have fun!

This site is very helpful even though it is for the 0 4 2 Porter. I did an install on my 0 4 2 but it is not very easy. I tried sound but could not figure out how to stuff it in all in and wound up just converting it to DCC only.

Study up on it if you want to pursue it but understand it is a little bit of work.
