N / 2-8-0 sound died ?
December 15, 2023, 07:11:32 PM
My 2-8-0 with sound still runs but the sound completely died without warning or any odd sounds. Engine runs just as good as it always has.   Any ideas what to do before replacing the decoder ?

N / aux water tender, short all black N&W version.
February 27, 2023, 05:27:38 PM
I picked up one of these short aux water tenders at a show. No box or info on it. I see it has a light at each end that come on the same time dimly. I opened it up and found the LEDs and a board inside.  Is there a way to program this tender or what ? I don't know anything about it.   Before i stumbled across this tender I used two extra 611 type aux tenders and cut the m down and made two all black tenders to put behind my Y6b types.

Thanks for any help,
KTB

I have all four road numbers and they all run good. The 7627 was having a bit of a fit with the tender pickups but i fixed that. I put Soundtraxx Tsunami 2 in them. They are nice. one of my best set of running engines. doubleheaders and sometimes triple head as seen in one photo. That must have been a sight for who ever seen that happen, three of them lumbering by,

N / headlight replacement 4-8-4 J
April 02, 2018, 06:51:51 PM
Trying to figure out how to get to the headlight on the J 4-8-4, latest version. I can see it in there sandwiched between the frame halves but i'd rather not have to crack open the frame just to get it out.  Or is that the only way to pull it out of there ?

I looked at the cut away view but it doesn't really help.

Any ideas out there ?

Thank you,

N / voltage of LED for 4-6-2
March 31, 2018, 08:52:37 AM
What is the voltage for the LED in the Bachmann 4-6-2. My volt meter is dead but I got 32 years from it.
Thank you,

N / Re: Class J 4-8-4 Disappointment

Don't give up on Bachmann just yet. i know the turn around can be long. I have two of the Js, the newer ones and they run great. So much pulling power they throw their traction tires off sometimes. They are great with a decoder in them.  I have four of the EM1 which are awesome too.  The Kato 2-8-2 is very good if you want to jump ship.

I have two of the old and two of the new. The new ones are awesome. Just drop in a Soundtraxx 2 TSU-1100.  The engine comes to life.

N / Bachmann Santa Fe 4-8-4
February 14, 2017, 08:06:32 PM
Just got a brand new one in.  I have three older ones and one which is from 1974 and the other two from probably the last run of an older underside.

The new one takes off like a rocket even with the DC on pulse.  I was going to ask if there is a way to slow it down, can one put a resistor in the wiring before the motor ?

Other then that I want to put a decoder in it. Plenty of room in the tender but she's not DCC ready. I have installed decoders in my Bachmann EM1's, all four of them and two J1's as well without issues but they are DCC friendly.

Any tips on the decoder install on this engine other then getting the tender pick ups everyone mentions. Looks like the frame is split and has plastic spacers so tells me it makes things easier to DCC ?

Thank you,
Keith

N / Re: EM 1 2-8-8-4 N scale B&O

Sorry you didn't get one. I think they are one of the best running engines around. They can do 40 hoppers up a 1.34% with ease. I have four and put TSU-750 decoders in all. Love to doublehead.  If you can find one get it. I see them on ebay.

I may as well chime in, i use soundtraxx and enjoy them. I have the TSU-750 in three of them and a ESU loco sound in the fourth one. I'm more fond of the Soundtraxx decoders.
That's my 2 cents.

N / Re: suggestion for next n scale steam locomotive.

I just converted over a Kato 2-8-2 into a L1 using parts from a Trix 2-10-0 body which is the same body they used on their K4 and a Bach K4 selection of parts.      Many things from the L1 was used on the K4 and I believe the boiler was pretty much the same thing.

I feel your pain.  Three of my Concor PA1 and B came clean, the second B is not coming clean.  Must have made at a different time then the other ones.  The original paint was Great Northern and the one that is not cleaning up I can't tell what it's factory paint was. Looks like PC green but I don't know if concor ever made the PAs in PC green.    When I got them they were all Pennsy tuscan but I've made them Brunswick green and five stripe.
